Dual Output DC-DC Converters operate from -40 to 85 deg C.

Press Release Summary:

NKA Series 1 W converters are supplied in sub-miniature, 14-pin DIP packages and are available for 3.3, 5, and 12 V input voltages. Output voltage options of 12 and 15 V are offered for 3.3 V input model, while 5V and 12 V input parts can be supplied with voltage options of 5, 9, 12, and 15 V. Galvanic isolation of 3 kVdc reduces switching noise. Internal SMD construction uses multilayer ceramic capacitors for MTTF rating up to 1.6 million hr.

Original Press Release:

Sub-Miniature Industrial Temperature Range DC-DC Converters Feature World's Lowest Profile Dual Output, 1W Parts

March, 2002, Tucson, Arizona - The latest additions to the NKA
series of industrial temperature range sub-miniature DC-DC
converters from C&D Technologies are the world's lowest profile
1W, 3kVDC isolated dual output devices.

The new NKA 1W DC-DC converters are supplied in sub-miniature, industry standard 14-pin DIP package styles that deliver a board mounting height of just 5.4mm (0.21 inches) and a board mounting area of 19.5mm x 9.8mm (0.77 inch x 0.39 inch). Ideal for height-limited applications where a dual DC output is required from a single DC rail, the NKA converters allow any distribution of load across the outputs as long as the total does not exceed 1W.

Devices in the NKA series are available for 3.3V, 5V and 12V input voltages. The 3.3V input voltage parts offer output voltage options of 12 and 15V, while 5V and 12V input parts are can be supplied with output voltage options of 5V, 9V, 12V and 15V. In all cases 3kVDC galvanic isolation between input and outputs helps to significantly reduce switching noise.

As well as a reduced profile, the new NKA converters can also reduce component count as they are capable of delivering their full 1W output across the -40°C to 85°C industrial temperature range without the need for additional components or external cooling. An internal SMD construction that uses multilayer ceramic capacitors rather than electrolytic or tantalum alternatives contributes to a long operating life and an MTTF rating of up to 1.6 million hours.

All of the new NKA devices are supplied in fully encapsulated, UL 94V-0-compliant packaging and employ a toroidal magnetic construction that minimizes external fields and ensures suitability for applications with high component densities. Typical line regulation for each device is rated at 1%, and typical ripple and noise ratings are as low as 30mA (peak-to-peak).

NKA DC-DC converters have unit pricing of under $5.00 for OEM quantities. As well as the standard devices in the series, C&D Technologies can also design and manufacture custom parts based on the NKA technology.
