New Dual EL Lamp Driver from Supertex Saves Power, Space

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 7, 2007 - Supertex, Inc. (NasdaqGS: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the HV862, a dimmable, low noise, dual electroluminescent (EL) lamp driver designed to backlight keypads in cellular phones, portable instrumentation and other handheld devices.

The IC features independent input controls for lamp selection, 180V peak-to-peak output voltage for high brightness, and adjustable output voltage regulation for dimming capability. It is in a 3mm by 3mm package, uses a single inductor and a minimum number of passive components. Cellular phones that have two separate keypads, such as the slider type, can now be driven independently with a single IC.

"The HV862 utilizes Supertex's expertise in high performance analog technology to deliver efficient, low noise operation for dual display applications," states Ahmed Masood, Vice President of Marketing for Supertex. "The product provides an excellent solution for cell phone manufacturers to backlight two separate keypads where both power consumption and space are at a premium."

HV862 is available in a QFN-16 package (HV862K7-G). The part is Green and RoHS compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$1.25 each for the HV862K7-G in 1K quantities.
