Dual Cure Adhesives offer multiple curing options.

Press Release Summary:

Curing to hard, scratch-resistant surface via individual or combined use of UV light, visible light, and heat, Tru-Bond(TM) Dual Cure Adhesives produce protective, decorative, and dome coatings. Other uses include potting, wire tacking, and tamper proofing applications. Chemistry overcomes oxygen inhibition barriers to allow curing with low-intensity black lights; standard fluorescent black lights rated as low as 15 W are sufficient to ensure totally tack-free cure.

New Devcon® Adhesives Cure with UV Light, Heat, or Both

DANVERS, MA - ITW Devcon's new Tru-Bond(TM) Dual Cure Adhesives cure to a hard, scratch-resistant surface with UV light, visible light, heat, or combinations of light and heat. They are ideal for producing protective, decorative, and dome coatings as well as for potting, wire tacking, and tamper proofing applications.

In the presence of air, the free radicals in most UV acrylic adhesives react with atmospheric oxygen and, through a process known as oxygen inhibition, interfere with surface curing. The result is often a slimy or tacky surface, and expensive high-intensity UV lamps are required to ensure proper curing. The unique chemistry of Devcon® Dual Cure Adhesives, however, overcomes oxygen inhibition barriers to allow curing with low-cost, low-intensity black lights. In fact, standard fluorescent black lights rated as low as 15 watts (available at most hardware stores) are sufficient to cure Tru-Bond(TM) Dual Cure Adhesives totally tack-free. These adhesives can be used to produce thick, wrinkle-free surfaces because their depth of cure is greater than most UV-cured coatings. They can also be tinted with pigments to create almost any color as well as unusual visual effects.

A pioneer in adhesive technology, ITW Devcon offers technically advanced adhesives, including high-strength epoxies, versatile methacrylates, fast-curing cyanoacrylates, and UV light-cured adhesives in a wide range of viscosities, working times, and cure times for virtually any application. Through its network of application specialists and distributors, the company evaluates the customer's performance requirements and process considerations, recommends the best adhesive, and even supervises the testing of bonded assemblies. For highly specialized requirements, ITW Devcon engineers will work with OEMs to formulate custom adhesives. Other ITW Devcon products include anaerobics, thread sealants, gasket makers, and epoxy coatings that protect against wear and abrasion, corrosion, and chemical attack.
