MEMSIC, INC. LAUNCHES ULTRA LOW NOISE PRODUCT LINE

New dual-axis accelerometers bring MEMS technology to new markets

ANDOVER, Mass., March 4, 2002 _ MEMSIC, Inc., the leading provider of CMOS-based MEMS accelerometers/sensors, is pleased to announce its newest product family, the Ultra Low Noise, Dual-Axis Accelerometer. These new thermal accelerometers utilize MEMS technology and are built on a standard, submicron CMOS process, providing a low cost alternative that significantly lowers failure rates, greatly improves performance and substantially increases long term reliability.

MEMSIC has successfully integrated MEMS technology with leading-edge IC processes to create MEMS ICs. The newest additions to the fully integrated, dual-axis product line puts MEMS technology in the hands of virtually any application that requires the sensing of motion, acceleration, or tilt.

Because of the standard CMOS structure of the accelerometers - which measure both dynamic acceleration, such as vibration, and static acceleration, such as gravity - additional circuitry can easily be incorporated into custom versions for high volume applications. In addition, the accelerometers are factory programmable at the end of the manufacturing cycle, cutting costs to as much as fifty percent less than competitors, and have no moving parts, eliminating stiction issues. Most importantly, in relation to the existing dual-axis product line, the noise floor has been reduced by a factor of 2.5 to 3 times, the drift over temperature has been improved by 50%, and the part's initial offset error has been reduced by 40% or greater.

"Because MEMSIC's technology is offered at an unprecedented low cost, has automotive - level quality and requires no special handling, customers that previously would not have been able to afford MEMS technology or found the reliability or handling requirements of it a deterrent, now can not only afford it, but greatly profit from its ability to sense motion, tilt, force, impact, and shock with a high degree of accuracy and sensitivity at a very low cost," says Yang Zhao, CEO of MEMSIC, Inc.

The Ultra Low Noise product features and performance make the product well-suited in the following applications:
* Automotive - Vehicle Security, Active Suspension, Headlight Angle Control, Tilt Sensing, Rollover, Navigation/Telematics
* Security - Gas Line, Elevator, Fatigue Sensing
* Office Equipment - Computer Peripherals, PDAs, Mouse, Smart Pens
* Gaming - Joystick, Menu Selection, Tilt Sensing
* White Goods - Spin, Vibration Control
* Consumer Electronics - Global Positioning Systems, Cell Phones, Pedometers
