Drop Test Fixture automates quality testing of small parts.

Press Release Summary:

Utilizing Resonant Acoustic Method, Model NDT-DTF automates quality testing of parts as small as ball bearings or small electronic connectors. Parts are automatically sorted via PLC-controlled stepper motor. No part preparation is needed for testing and no human interpretation is necessary. Offering speeds of 1 part/sec and providing pass/fail result, fixture automates with bowl feeders or vibratory tables and is instrumented with laboratory-grade force sensor, microphone, and DSP analyzer.

Drop Test Fixture Allows for Simplified Automation

FOR RESONANT ACOUSTIC METHOD (NDT-RAM(TM)) FOR SMALL METAL COMPONENT PART INSPECTION

July 22, 2009, Cincinnati, OH - THE MODAL SHOP, INC. announces an innovative Drop Test Fixture (NDT-DTF) which makes automation of quality testing of parts as small as ball bearings or small electronic connectors easy. The drop test fixture allows small metal parts to enjoy the benefits of Resonant Acoustic Method (NDT-RAM): speed - as fast as a part per second; versatility - multiple part numbers can be used on a single system; ease of use - no part preparation is needed for testing; and objectiveness - no human interpretation is necessary, a simple pass/fail result is returned by the NDT-RAM system and parts are automatically sorted via a PLC controlled stepper motor.

The NDT-DTF automates easily with typical small part automation components like bowl feeders or vibratory tables and is instrumented with a laboratory grade force sensor, microphone and digital signal processor analyzer while still being rugged enough for the manufacturing environment. The Drop Test Fixture provides free-free testing of small parts; there is no damping of the resonant frequencies from boundary conditions such as fixtures that can decrease the resolution of the testing.

All of the NDT-RAM systems are ideal for 100% inspection requirements for manufacturers or users of powder metal, metal injection molded (MIM), castings (including ductile iron), forgings or stampings that have significant inspection costs (either material or labor costs), produce or use safety-critical parts, have substantial scrap costs due to false rejects, or simply want to improve their part quality.
