Original Press Release:

Yaskawa's New P7 Drive for Industrial Fans and Pumps

NEW BERLIN, Wis., Aug. 1, 2003 -- Yaskawa's new P7 Drive for fans and pumps in industrial applications provides V/f control, 110 percent overload capability and a wide selection of network communication and input/output options.

The new P7 is factory-programmed and ready to run. Operational simplicity is provided by an LCD operator display which features five lines of 16 characters and can be set to any of seven languages.

The intuitive keypad includes a copy function to move a chosen set of parameters from one drive to another. For applications where additional programming is required, parameters are grouped in easy-to-use sets.

Yaskawa's exclusive Windows®-based DriveWizard(TM) software is available at no charge and facilitates upload/download of drive data. DriveWizard(TM) provides a complete set of user-friendly tools to retrieve, view, manipulate, store and graph data with a few simple mouse clicks.

Three-Contactor Bypass Package
An optional 3-contactor style bypass package allows motor operation from the drive or across the line to facilitate drive maintenance while the motor continues to operate.

Open Architecture, Connectivity
The P7 supports open architecture and connectivity standards with network communication choices that include DeviceNet, Profibus-DP, Ethernet and other popular protocols. Drive coordination is simplified with 4 to 20 mA and 0-10V inputs and outputs.

A "Sleep" function allows motor operation to be stopped when demand is at a low level for a selected time period. The motor is reactivated automatically when demand increases. "Sleep" provides significant energy savings while minimizing operating hours on driven equipment.

Performance features include: auto-restart, stall prevention, anti-windmilling DC injection braking, critical frequency rejection, power-loss ride-through, multi-directional speed search, serial communication loss detection, no-load detection, and accel/ decel time selection.

Design features include Local/Remote functionality, built into the drive's digital operator keypad for easy selection of operation.

The P7 features an internal PI controller, eliminating the need for closed loop output signals. The PI controller includes feedback inverse, square root, and differential control functions. It maintains setpoint for dosed loop control of fans and pumps for pressure or flow regulation.

Designed for tough industrial environments, the P7 is available in a variety of protective enclosures. It is available in ratings from 5 to 500 HP at 208/230/240/480 VAC. It is globally compatible, conforming to UL, cUL and CE requirements.
