Yaskawa Introduces NEMA 3R Enclosure for E7 Variable Frequency Drives

DECEMBER 2005

NEW BERLIN, WIS - Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. announces the availability of a standard NEMA 3R configured enclosure for its popular E7 variable frequency drive, designed specifically for commercial HVAC applications. According to the company, the new enclosure is competitively priced and will be widely available directly from Yaskawa, as well as through the company's distribution channels.

The company states that the new enclosure offers a full range of E7 power and voltage ratings, control, communication, and power options in the NEMA 3R enclosure. Ratings include:
o 208V, 3 phase, 5 to 150 HP
230V, 3 phase, 5 to 150 HP
480V, 3 phase, 5 to 500 HP
230V, 1 phase, 5 to 75 HP,
o Altitude: 3300 ft. without derating
o Design and Nameplate with NEC rated motor amps
o Relative Humidity: 95% maximum non-condensing
o Operating temperature: -10 deg C to +40 deg C (@ default carrier Freq)
o Operating temperature (output current derated): -10° to +50° C (@ default carrier Freq)

The new Yaskawa NEMA enclosure carries a UL Type 3R label, and has been designed to provide a high degree of outdoor protection against rain, snow, and sleet, as well as defend against airborne dust particles as small as 10 microns in size. Standard features of the new enclosure include door locking (keyed door handle or padlock hasp), force ventilation, door mounted drive operator keypad, and dual current rating on data nameplate for 40° C and 50° C operating ambient temperature.

According to Tim Wallschlaeger, Yaskawa Electric America's Product Marketing Manager for the new enclosure, "The challenge was to develop a top quality standard enclosure that would be readily available through our distribution channels and still be flexible enough to be used in custom OEM designs and customer specific engineered orders. We believe we've achieved that objective - at a very reasonable price - and also added a significant list of optional design features."

Design features being offered as options on the new enclosure include:
o Floor mount kits for all sizes
o Lighting protection (Transient Voltage Surge Suppressor)
o Space heater and thermostat (operate at minimum -30° C, 100% humidity)
o Air-to-air heat exchangers for use in extremely dusty environments (NEC rated amps at 40° C Ambient.)
o Hinged viewing window for viewing keypad operator

While primarily designed to accommodate Yaskawa's E7 drive, according to the company the new enclosure can also be configured for Yaskawa's P7, F7 and G7 drives.
