The Siemens Converter Family has a New Addition

The Sinamics product range of Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) has been expanded with the S150 drive converter for demanding drive applications at high outputs.

Sinamics S150 is extremely quiet and requires less standing area than conventional converters. An operator panel that is built into the cabinet door as standard with a menu-driven, graphically supported plain text display simplifies
operation. Engineering tools common to the complete Sinamics family simiplify project engineering and start-up. The devices feature a regenerative feedback function as standard, a high-speed closed-loop current control transfers current sinusoidally and almost totally prevents harmonic effects on the system.

Sinamics S150 drive converter cabinet units are currently available for outputs up to 315 kW, and the range will soon be extended to 1200 kW. The optimized inverter functionality supports high-precision speed and torque control with and without
encoders. With its standard regenerative feedback capability, Sinamics S150 is ideally suited to applications in which drives are also used in generator mode. These are, for example, test bed drives, centrifuges, lift and crane systems, cross cutters, shears, conveyor belts, presses and cable winches. Another area of application is for drive systems in which the stipulations of the power supply company prescribe extremely low line harmonics, or for sensitive drives on weak supply systems.

The high-performance vector control of Sinamics S150 transfers sinusoidal currents to the supply system. Thanks to the "clean power filter", low-frequency mains pollution is almost negligible. Losses due to harmonic currents in low-voltage distribution systems, mains transformers and the main supply cable are also a thing of the past. The converter is resistant to mains voltage variations, and the drive system therefore has a
high degree of availability. A constant, regulated DC link voltage decouples the motor voltage from the influence of the supply voltage to a considerable extent.

With Sinamics S150, the power factor is freely selectable. With the standard power factor setting of one, no reactive power exists. Other settings can be used for the power factor to compensate inductive or capacitive reactive power or to select a specific reactive power level. A comprehensive package of options enables the cabinet Limits to be adapted to the individual requirements of every application.
