Original Press Release:

Square D® M-Flex(TM) Enclosed Drive Controllers Offer Maximum Flexibility

PALATINE, Ill. - October 3, 2006 - Designed to meet a wide array of commercial, industrial and municipal application requirements, the recently introduced Square D® brand M-Flex(TM) enclosed drive controller from Schneider Electric provides a robust, adjustable-speed solution to meet the most demanding motor control applications. The enclosed drive controller package features the new Telemecanique® brand Altivar® 61 or Altivar 71 AC drive for process applications where high functionality of features is required.

"M-Flex enclosed drive controllers offer a platform of standard, engineered and special features to meet the most demanding application and specification requirements, including projects with energy efficiency mandates," said Leon Kythas, product manager, Schneider Electric. "The M-Flex enclosed drive controllers serve a multitude of market segments, including government, hospitals, universities, pharmaceutical, industrial facilities and municipal pumping applications."

The enclosed drive controllers are available in the following ratings:

Constant torque/heavy duty ratings (150 percent current limit) - 1 to 40 HP at 208 to 230V, and 1 to 450 HP at 460V, using the Altivar 71 AC drive

Variable torque/light duty ratings (110 percent current limit) - 1 to 50 HP at 208 to 230V, and 1 to 500 HP at 460V, using the Altivar 61 AC drive

M-Flex enclosed drive controllers are available in Type 1 general purpose or Type 12/12K drip- and dust-proof environmental enclosures in integrated or barriered designs. Integrated enclosures, which can be wall- or floor-mounted, provide a circuit breaker disconnect and enough room for power peripherals, including isolation and bypass contactors, all within the same enclosure. Barriered enclosures separate power and control circuits, such as bypass, from drive control to allow for maximum flexibility if servicing a drive in bypass operation.

Standard integrated features of the M-Flex enclosed drive controllers include an AC line reactor providing transient protection from surge and overvoltage conditions, while minimizing line harmonics to allow the installer to optimize dimensioning of power cables. In addition, M-Flex enclosed drive controllers are configured to meet International Building Code and ASCE 7 seismic qualification requirements in accordance with the ICC ES AC156 shaker table testing protocol. The enclosed drive controller is designed and constructed for structural integrity, and can be specified for use in applications that require a lp = 1.5, which means operational status is restored after a seismic event.

All M-Flex enclosed drive controllers have either prepunched conduit knockouts or removable top and bottom conduit plates to save installation time and prevent metal filings from entering the enclosure.

The controllers also are easily expandable. For building automation applications, LonWorks, BACnet, MetaSYS N2 and APOGEE P1 can be added. For industrial applications, DeviceNet, Ethernet TCP/IP, FIPIO, Interbus-S, Modbus® Plus, Modbus Uni-Telway(TM) and Profibus DP easily can be added.
