Drive Assemblies have option that prevents sudden stops/starts.

Press Release Summary:

Rolling ring linear drive assemblies are offered with mechanically operated V-cam option that enables controlled ramp down/up of drive head while motor rotates at constant speed. Product reduces linear speed of drive head before reversal, dissipating forward payload momentum. After reversal, drive head gradually ramps back up to speed to ensure smooth movement of payload. Drive systems provide up to 800 lb of axial thrust and travel speeds to 13 ft/sec.

Linear Drive Assembly Option Prevents Sudden Stops/Starts - Ramps Linear Speed Up and Down Without Changing Motor Speed

Aston, PA, July 2003 - Amacoil/Uhing has introduced the V-cam option for rolling ring linear drive assemblies which enables controlled ramp down/up of the drive head while the motor rotates at a constant speed. No controls or programming are needed which simplifies reciprocating motion system set-up, operation and maintenance. The V-cam option reduces the linear speed of the drive head before reversal, dissipating forward payload momentum. After reversal, the drive head gradually ramps back up to speed assuring smooth movement of the payload in applications where sudden starts and stops could reduce the accuracy, effectiveness or efficiency of the process.

Example applications include spraying, slicing, scoring, probing and other processes which may require "soft" reversal of the tool, or other payload, attached to the drive head. The V-cam functions using purely mechanical means. Basic hardware fixtures are attached to the drive head and assembly framework. As the drive head travels back and forth, these fixtures cause the rolling ring bearing assembly to slowly pivot, which reduces the drive head's linear speed at the end of each stroke, and gradually ramps the drive back up to speed after reversal.

Amacoil linear drive assemblies are used in machinery requiring a positioning or reciprocating motion component such as material handling systems, winding machines, spraying assemblies, converting equipment, measuring systems and more. "Rolling ring" linear drive systems provide up to 800 lbs. of axial thrust. Depending on the size of the drive, travel speed may be up to 13 ft./sec. at constant RPMs, over distances of up 16 feet (max.). Selectable features and accessories include automatic reversal, variable pitch, load carriers, shaft collars for holding spools secure, delayed reversal, "dwell" capability, and more.
