Original Press Release:

Highest Linearity, Lowest Noise SiGe Mixer Is Optimized for the New 1500MHz WCDMA/LTE 3G and 4G Base Stations

SiGe mixer is optimized for 1500MHz wireless-infrastructure applications.

Maxim expands its family of pin-compatible, dual, downconverting SiGe mixers with a new device targeting the 1500MHz WCDMA/LTE market.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the MAX19993, a fully integrated, 1200MHz to 1700MHz, dual, downconverting mixer with an on-chip LO switch, buffer, and splitter. Designed using Maxim's proprietary SiGe process, this device delivers outstanding linearity and noise performance. Offering exceptional levels of component integration, this single monolithic IC provides two independent downconversion channels, each with a +27dBm (typ) IIP3, 6.4dB (typ) conversion gain, and 9.8dB (typ) noise figure.

Additionally, the MAX19993 offers an industry-best 2RF-2LO spurious rejection of 72dBc for an RF level of -10dBm, and 67dBc for a level of -5dBm. This mixer is designed specifically for 1500MHz WCDMA/LTE wireless-infrastructure applications in which high linearity and a low noise figure are critical for enhanced receiver sensitivity and blocker immunity.

As a complete SiGe downconverter, the MAX19993 integrates two state-of-the-art mixer cores; four amplifiers; three baluns; an LO switch, buffer, and splitter; and dozens of discrete components. The 6.4dB conversion gain enables the elimination of a complete IF amplifier stage within the receiver lineup. The outstanding 2RF-2LO performance also eases the filtering requirements of close-in harmonics, thus leading to simpler and more cost-effective filter designs. Through this combination of integration and performance, the MAX19993 reduces mixer solution size by a factor of 2x and the discrete part count by 45%.

The MAX19993 is packaged in a compact, 6mm x 6mm, 36-pin TQFN that is pin compatible with the MAX9985/MAX9995/MAX19985A and MAX19994A/MAX19995/MAX19995A series of 700MHz to 2200MHz dual mixers. It is pin similar to the MAX19997A/MAX19999 series of 1850MHz to 4000MHz dual mixers. This complete family of downconverters is ideal for applications in which a common PCB layout is used for multiple frequency bands. Prices for the MAX19993 start at $9.96 (1000-up, FOB USA).
