MIDLAND, Mich. - (May 8, 2006) - The Dow Chemical Company announced today that its UCON(TM) Fluids and Lubricants business is bringing to North America a line of high performance polyalkylene glycol (PAG) base fluids that has previously only been available in Europe. Marketed under the trade name SYNALOXTM 40-D Base Fluids, these PAG copolymers are suitable as base stocks and formulated fluids and lubricants.
"Dow has had a lot of success with SYNALOX 40-D lubricants in Europe," said Peter Pendergast, sr. marketing manger, UCON Fluids and Lubricants, The Dow Chemical Company. "SYNALOX 40-D Base Fluids were developed to address the emerging market needs for high performance polyalkylene glycol base fluids that have excellent environmental and safety profiles. This will give more options to users, who will be able to choose between the butanol-initiated PAGs, such as UCON 50-HB Base Fluids, already offered in North America, and SYNALOX fluids, which are diol-initiated."
Key applications are: gear oils and circulation fluids; metalworking fluids, where, due to their water solubility, they can provide excellent lubricity and heat removal; compressor oils; textile lubricants; greases; and lubricants with incidental food contact.
Enhanced technical features of the SYNALOX 40-D line include low friction coefficients and high extreme pressure failure loads, which, through better friction reduction, lower energy costs and extend the life of equipment. SYNALOX 40-D fluids have good low temperature performance, thermo-oxidative stability and are water soluble. They are available in a broad range of ISO viscosity grades 68-1000.
The SYNALOX 40-D products are manufactured in Terneuzen, The Netherlands, and West Virginia, USA.
