Dow Corning Electronics Introduces its High-Performance TC-5026 Thermal Grease to the Automotive Industry

Reliability, Stability and Low Thermal Resistance Make it Ideal for Demanding Auto Applications

MIDLAND, Mich., Sept. 30 -- Dow Corning Corporation's Automotive Electronics group today announced that its DOW CORNING® TC-5026 Thermally Conductive Compound is now available for automotive industry use. Although originally developed primarily for use in computer-industry semiconductor components, extensive customer testing has now established that the unique performance characteristics of TC-5026 also make it well-suited for use in demanding, high-temperature automotive applications.

TC-5026 sets a new industry standard for performance, with extremely low thermal resistance, reliability and stability under adverse conditions such as thermal cycling, high humidity and high-temperature aging. This high-performance thermal grease offers up to 30 percent lower thermal resistance than competing products, helping to keep chips cooler and operating efficiently.

Its thermal conductivity of 2.9 W/mK provides especially strong thermal performance when used in small bondlines, making TC-5026 ideal for use in entertainment and other interior automotive electronics applications. For larger bondline uses, Dow Corning has developed and will soon launch additional thixotropic compounds that can be used to fill 1 mm or larger gaps while delivering similarly impressive results.

"We are pleased to extend the proven performance benefits of our popular TC-5026 thermal grease to our customers in the automotive industry," said Rogier Reinders, Dow Corning's automotive electronics market leader. "Thermal greases are increasingly being used in automotive electronics because of their excellent thermal performance and reparability, and Dow Corning intends to continue investing in product development for this growing market."

Dow Corning's unique formulation makes TC-5026 resistant to pump-out, dry-out separation or migration through its advanced solvent-free composition. These characteristics are especially important in harsh automotive environments to avoid thermal degradation over time. The formulation enables easy spreading using screen printing and dispensing, even after storage and exposure to air.
