Dow Corning Compounding Specialist to Present New Dispersion Aid at AddCon World 2008

MIDLAND, Mich.: Valerie Smits, reinforced plastic applications expert at the Dow Corning Surface and Interface Solutions Center, will present "A New Filler Dispersion Technology for the Plastics Industry" at The 14th International Plastics Additives and Compounding Conference (AddCon World 2008), October 15-16, 2008 in Barcelona, Spain.

Smits's presentation, co-authored with Pierre Chevalier, Damien Deheunynck and Scott Miller of Dow Corning, will review the effect of silane treatments on the performance of composites and introduce a new technology that provides material benefits, cost advantages, ease of use and low volatile organic compounds. This new dispersion aid technology allows improved processability, better filler dispersion and overall better material performance.

"The performance of reinforced polymers depends not only on the filler characteristics, but also on its dispersion and the interactions formed at the polymer-filler interface," said Smits. "By using a dispersing aid and coupling agent, composite performance can be optimized, enabling more demanding applications or reducing the cost of current technologies."

Smits's presentation is scheduled at 17:00, Wednesday, October 15, during Session 4 on Additive Dispersion Technology.
