Tusk Direct Announces Accurate and Economical Double-Rail Motion Systems

(Bethel, Connecticut, U.S.A.; November 20, 2004) -- Tusk Direct has announced the availability of accurate and economical modular double-rail guide and carriage linear motion systems with a wide range of options to fit most any application. The line includes economical ERL guides, high-precision and high-rigidity ERN guides, and high-torsional stability and load capacity ERW guides. Roller carriages and ball bearing carriages are offered for ERN and ERL series guides and an ERCW roller carriage is provided for ERW guides. In addition, Econorail extended travel linear slides and carriages provide an economical precision motion alternative that handles lengths up to 118 inches. Individual rollers and bearing cartridges are also available for OEM applications and as replacements.

The ERL double rail guide consists of two precision ground 12 mm steel shafts with support blocks that are typically set at increments of 100 mm. The steel shafts can be staggered and built up to provide virtually any length of travel. Shafts and mounting blocks are sold separately and spacing can be varied to accommodate different loads. ERN double rail guides consist of two 12 mm steel shafts that are supported uniformly throughout their range of travel on anodized aluminum support profiles. The shafts are connected and tightened against each other by M5 screws, producing a highly accurate and rigid rail system.

Roller carriages for ERN and ERL guides use four precision rollers on each plate, each riding on two sealed bearings that are lubricated for life for minimal maintenance. The 125 mm by 97 mm by 8 mm steel plate has four M6 threaded holes on a 50 mm grid for easy mounting. The rollers have eccentric mounting to allow for easy preload and clearance adjustment. Bearing carriages consists of a milled aluminum block with a steel core with 3.5 mm ball bearings incorporated into four steel raceways. The balls ride on the steel core at speeds up to 5 m/sec. Two T-slots on the top surface allow for mounting of M6 screws or nuts. The bearing carriages include wipers and lubrication ports.

ERW double rail guides are spaced 100 mm apart to increase torsional stability and torque load capacity. The double rail and support profile is sold as a complete assembly in lengths from 400 mm to 3000 mm. ERCW carriages consist of a 150 mm by 125 mm by 20 mm flat milled aluminum plate with five longitudinal T-slots for M6, DIN 508 T-nuts for easy mounting. Four precision 31 mm guide rollers are on each plate. Each roller has two rows of sealed bearings and is lubricated for life. Two of the four guide rollers have eccentric pivots that allow the preload of the carriage to be adjusted for play-free operation.

Economical, accurate ER extended travel slides consist of two parallel, hardened and ground 12 mm diameter rails secured in 25 mm high aluminum channels. The precision steel shafts are separated by precision spacers, providing intrinsic accuracy. The aluminum extrusion acts like a frame holding the components together. ERC cartridges feature bearing systems consisting of a single piece bearing core that is ground all over and two recirculating ball bearing circuits with 3.5 mm steel balls. Two bearing elements are mounted on a specially machined plate to provide precise alignment.
