Synergis Adept 5 Document Management Solution Ships This Month

Delivers Industry Defining Autodesk Inventor Integration, an Award-winning Built-in 3D/2D Viewer, Greater Functionality and Performance

Atlantic Design and Manufacturing Show, New York, June 4, 2002-Synergis Technologies, Inc. today announced that Synergis® Adept(TM) 5, the latest version of the industry's most cost-effective document management solution for engineering and design departments, will be available later this month. Adept delivers greater out-of-the-box functionality, collaboration, interoperability, and performance to companies that want to increase their productivity and control over documents. Adept clients range from several users in a workgroup to several hundred across departments, as well as companies that want to share critical engineering information with enterprise-wide business systems. New feature highlights include the industry's most comprehensive integration with Autodesk Inventor® 5, the award-winning built-in MYRIAD 3D/2D viewer, performance enhancements for low-bandwidth networks, relationship tracking between DWG files and faster images, and the ability to batch update DWG attributes and Autodesk Inventor Properties from within Adept. With Adept 5, Synergis offers a new leasing option for software and services to allow greater flexibility for budgeting and purchases. Synergis also announced plans to deliver SolidWorks® integration for Adept 5 in 2002.

"Synergis Adept lets companies manage all their critical business information in a single system to maximize value and ROI throughout the enterprise as well as to foster communication to drive business growth," said Todd Cummings, director of Product Development at Synergis Technologies. "With this latest release, we are continuing to focus Adept at the design and engineering department level by delivering the CAD management tools and processes that are proven to increase engineering productivity. While Adept is engineering-centric, it has functionality to enhance collaboration between other departments such as sales, marketing purchasing and manufacturing."

Autodesk Inventor Integration
Extending its document management capabilities to Autodesk Inventor users, Adept tracks and manages the compound data stored inside Autodesk Inventor designs. Adept's integration extends beyond managing Autodesk Inventor parts and assemblies while tracking their relationships. Adept tracks standard fasteners, iParts, iFeatures, and derived parts, allowing users to find, control, and access them, maintain file interrelationships, and apply the many benefits of document management to the diverse elements of an Autodesk Inventor assembly. Additionally, Adept offers automated revision tracking, revision locking, "Where Used" information, automatic title block/property extraction into the Adept database, and 3D thumbnail previews. Adept commands inside Autodesk Inventor provide users with easy-to-access searching, Sign In, and Sign Out capabilities, so that users can access critical document management functionality from within their design automation tool. Adept delivers 3D Autodesk Inventor viewing support for cross-departmental sharing of Autodesk Inventor models and 2D drawings, eliminating the need for Autodesk Inventor to be installed on non-design and engineering workstations. Adept's support for Autodesk Inventor continues Synergis' solid integration with Autodesk's complete line of design products, including AutoCAD®, AutoCAD® Mechanical, Autodesk® Mechanical Desktop®, Autodesk® Architectural Desktop® and Autodesk® Land Desktop®.

New Features to Dramatically Increase Productivity
In addition to viewing more than 200 2D formats, Adept now offers a built-in MYRIAD 3D/2D viewer from Informative Graphics Corporation for Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks files. It allows users to display, redline, compare files, and create check prints without requiring the native application. 3D design data can now be shared beyond the engineering department to facilitate collaboration among team members via the LAN, WAN or the Internet.

With the new Bi-directional Document Update feature, Adept 5 can extract data from documents and batch update documents from the Library Card to drawings. This new capability enables users with permission to quickly update DWG attributes and Autodesk Inventor properties from within Adept. It provides an efficient way to standardize document data without opening the original application. Adept 5 also offers users enhancements to lock the revision number of parts related to an assembly, fix to a particular revision or float to the current one. In the Relationship Browser, users with permission can batch select child documents and change their revision locking state with one mouse click.

Adept 5 includes many major enhancements and performance increases for users with low-speed networks. Now remote users can connect to Adept databases and vaults with excellent performance in lower bandwidth situations. With the Adept Server Search Assistant, a key new feature to accelerate performance, users can search on the server and compress the resulting search data before transmittal.

Adept 5 also tracks raster images, a feature which is particularly beneficial to anyone who needs to associate raster images with their drawings. Similar to the manner it tracks externally referenced DWG files, Adept recognizes the relationships of raster images in Autodesk DWG files, stores the location of the images, and tracks the relationship in the Relationship Browser. This extends the range of Autodesk file relationships that Adept manages, freeing users to concentrate on their design work.

New Implementation and Administration Features
Making Adept even more affordable, Synergis offers customers the ability to lease Adept software and implementation services-a unique offering in the industry. This option allows customers to budget a fixed monthly expenditure to accommodate their mission critical document management needs. It also gives companies flexibility for project scaling and client billing. A departure from hourly billing, new annual support contracts offer customers unlimited support at an affordable price.

About Synergis Adept
The award-winning Synergis Adept software is a powerful solution that is simple to use, easy to implement, and requires less customization than other document management offerings. Adept offers customers unbeatable price/performance benefits. It is the only departmental document management solution to include client/server, vaulting capabilities and web access out of the box, eliminating the need for a dedicated database server, web server, database licenses, and IT support. Adept is also the only document management solution to offer automatic importation of legacy data and preservation of the relationships among AutoCAD-based files and its Xrefs, or an Autodesk Inventor model and its subassemblies, dramatically reducing the data conversion process from days to minutes. Further, Adept delivers a built-in workflow that ensures documents are properly routed and assigned and enables users to create manual relationships between documents of any type including CAD, Word, Excel, and others.

Building on the proven customer success of Network FileManager (NFM), Synergis Adept enables designers to track, revise, secure, and provide access to document data, metadata and inter-relationships via a LAN, WAN, or the Internet to reduce design cycle time across numerous industries. In addition, Synergis Adept successfully co-exists with enterprise-wide systems. Its industry-standard database enables easy transfer of engineering documents with other enterprise- wide databases. Further, its application programming interface (API) gives users the ability to program custom features that further extend Adept's capabilities.
