Ditech Networks Supports Expanded Range of VoIP Services with Addition of iLBC Transcoding Capabilities

Packet Voice Processor Enables Service Providers to Deliver Superior Voice Quality and Provide Connectivity Between the PSTN and the Vast Deployment of Soft Phones with iLBC Technology

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 6 -- Ditech Networks (NASDAQ:DITC) a leader in voice quality solutions for mobile and VoIP networks, announced today that its Packet Voice Processor(TM), an advanced border media processing platform designed to enable carriers to deploy universal transcoding and toll-quality voice over IP (VoIP) services, will support the Internet Low Bit Rate Codec (iLBC) along with its existing broad range of voice codecs. With the addition of this capability, carriers can minimize the cost and additional complexity associated with network-wide upgrades required to support new codecs and services.

Ditech's PVP will support up to 16,000 simultaneous iLBC transcoding sessions in combination with Ditech's hallmark Voice Quality Assurance(TM) (VQA(TM)) software suite. With the addition of iLBC support, Ditech's Packet Voice Processor continues to deliver a broader range of media processing capabilities, enabling carriers to optimize bandwidth and serve a larger set of customers worldwide. Using the PVP, voice over broadband providers can deliver superior voice quality and clarity for voice, audio conferencing, and messaging applications. VoIP termination providers can now offer termination services for iLBC, to increase the level of voice quality for VoIP to PSTN calls while enabling the use of lower cost codec technologies designed for internet telephony providers.

"We are delighted to see the deployment of the iLBC technology on network based platforms such as the Ditech PVP," said Wendy Toth, VP of Marketing for Global IP Sound. "With nearly half a billion GIPS Voice Engines deployed with iLBC, the large base of VoIP clients can now reach the PSTN with ease and pave the way to additional, even higher quality voice services in the future."

"While PSTN-level voice quality has long been the standard by which VoIP quality is compared, industry developments will soon enable IP-based voice quality to surpass it," said Stephane Teral, Principal Analyst, Service Provider VoIP, IMS & FMC, Infonetics. "Products such as the Ditech Packet Voice Processor already support the move toward wideband and its ultra-high sampling rates and enable providers to more easily and cost-effectively position themselves to deliver superior audio quality and clarity."

"As service providers look ahead, iLBC provides a means to scale VoIP services to a diverse and broad set of client software and devices," said Chalan Aras, vice president of Marketing for Ditech Networks. "Ditech's support for iLBC enables providers to deploy our Packet Voice Processor at the network edge and support iLBC from all of their customers, as well as process calls using the standard methods already employed in their networks."

With support for iLBC, the Ditech Packet Voice Processor supports the most comprehensive range of codecs in the industry, including G.711, G.723.1, G.726, G.729, G.729a, G.729b, G.729ab, G.729e, G.729g, and now iLBC. Support for a wide array of codecs enables carriers to optimize bandwidth and serve the largest set of customers worldwide.
