ABB Expands Relion® Distribution Relay Portfolio for North American Markets
Latest addition to the Relion® family of relays – the 620 series – offers flexible, adaptable, powerful solutions for utility distribution and industrial applications
San Diego, California, – ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, today announced the worldwide release of three new Relion® 620 Series products for utility distribution and industrial applications.
The Relion® 620 series of Protection Relays is now available for North America and for all ANSI markets. This launch, with advanced designs for Feeder, Motor and Transformer protection, extends the Relion® portfolio for the ANSI markets. The 620 series is part of the larger Relion® product family of transmission and distribution protection and control Intelligent Electronic Devices.
The ANSI Relion® 620 series of distribution protection relays – the REF620, REM620, and RET620 – are perfectly designed to fit mid- to high-end distribution applications, including one, one-and-a-half, and two breaker schemes. The three products in the 620 series are designed for protection and control of feeders, motors and transformers.
These new protection relays feature the traditional Relion® ease of use with one programming tool and three standard open protocols, as well as customizable screens, cable fault detection, the highest number of user-programmable push buttons and digital inputs and outputs, and safety features such as delayed close breaker operation and arc-flash detection.
“With the addition of the 620 series, ABB continues its long-term commitment to the North American market and solidifies the breadth of the company’s relay portfolio,” said Jon Rennie, Vice President, ABB Distribution Automation. “These new products allow utility and industrial users to implement simple solutions to complex protection and control challenges in distribution applications. In addition, Relion® relays use only open protocols, which help customers avoid the single-supplier approach to proprietary protocols.
“We are excited,” Rennie continued, “to offer the 620 series now in North America, which, together with the field-proven 615 series for low- to mid-end applications, allow ABB to offer a solution for every distribution and industrial application.”
This announcement was made at the DistribuTech conference and exhibition, held this year at the San Diego Convention Center. ABB is exhibiting on the DistribuTech show floor in booth # 1201.
