Emerson Introduces Line of Astec High-Density 1U Distributed Power Systems

New Systems Feature Hot-Plug Operation, N+1 or N + N Redundancy with Output Current Sharing

CARLSBAD, Calif. - January 10, 2005 - Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) has announced a new line of high-density AC-DC distributed bulk power front-ends from its Astec Power division (astecpower.com), a leading merchant supplier of power conversion solutions. With a +12VDC main output and a +3.3VDC standby output, the first of the versatile new DS Series power supplies are available in power ratings of 450 Watts and 550 Watts, with additional 650W and 850W models slated for release later this year. A convenient 1U by 2U profile (1.57 x 3.07 x 12.03") enables flexible configuration options to maximize the use of rack space.

The high-density (>10w/in3) design and high-availability features make the DS Series especially suitable for high-density server applications as well as other datacom, data storage, medical and industrial applications. Featuring full current-sharing capabilities and internal OR-ing diodes for isolation, the DS Series is specifically designed to support hot-swap and redundancy for applications requiring maximum reliability.

With AC input from 90VAC to 264VAC, the DS Series modules feature active power factor correction (typically > 0.98) that meets EN61000-3-2 standards for input current harmonic content. The DS Series provides up to 45 Amps at 12VDC (on the 550W model) and also offers a standby supervisory output of 3.3V at 3 Amps. Each supply has over-voltage and over-current protection, active inrush current limiting circuitry and internal OR-ing diodes. The internally fan-cooled units have no minimum load requirements and include over-temperature protection, remote inhibit and remote sensing on the main output. An I2C communications interface bus provides voltage and current monitoring, remote on/off, and internal fan speed control. Three display LED's provide visual status of: ACOK, DC Power Good, and Fan Fail.

The new DS Series units comply with worldwide safety and performance standards and bear UL60950, NEMKO, CB Report, China CCC and CE Marks. Designed to NEBS Bell Core standards for electromagnetic susceptibility, the DS units also comply with the latest RoHS and lead-free requirements. In addition, the new models operate without derating over a wide temperature range from 10B0C to 45B0C and conform to industry standards for shock and vibration. DS units also come standard with a mechanical latch, handle and EMI Clips. Optimized 1U x 2U Racks are being designed for the DS Series and will be available in the near future.

OEM prices for the new models start at $180 for the DS450-3 model. For more information, please contact an Astec Power representative in your area. To locate a representative, go to the Astec Power Web site at astecpower.com, and click on the SALES OFFICE button on the home page.
