Distance Measurement Sensor comes in compact housing.

Press Release Summary:

Capable of detecting flat black and shiny targets at same range repeatedly, Model DS30 proximity style sensor comes with single PNP/NPN output to detect virtually any target within its 2 m range. Hybrid laser generates high gain reserves under dirty conditions for solid detection in industrial environments, while Time-of-flight technology helps provide small black/white shift. Unit is suited for pallet bay/bin empty/full detection and loop control for web materials.

New High-Performance Distance Measurement Sensor in a Compact Housing

DS30 ideal for detecting flat black and shiny targets

Minneapolis, Minn. March 10, 2008 - SICK (www.sickusa.com), one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems and automatic identification products for factory and logistics automation, today announced the launch of the DS30 Distance Measurement Sensor. This new sensor enhances the company's position as the leader in distance measurement products. The DS30 combines simple push button setup with incredible detection performance - all in an industry standard housing. The DS30 line is a proximity style sensor with a single PNP or NPN output capable of detecting virtually any target within its 2-meter range.

What makes the DS30 unique is its ability to detect flat black and shiny targets at the same range repeatedly. Many other sensors will see a brighter target as closer to the sensor than a darker target; this is called a black/white shift. High performance sensors like the SICK DME and DT500 series have color-independent detection and measurement as well, but this type of performance has never been offered in a sensor the size and at the price of a DS30. Applications include pallet bay/bin empty/full detection, loop control for web materials - like paper, plastic, rubber, and metals, and for detecting parcels, packages and objects with shiny surfaces to trigger SICK bar code scanners.

o The DS30 is a true time-of-flight sensor. Time-of-flight technology is what enables the sensor to provide perfect background suppression and an incredibly small black/white shift.

o One of the hallmarks of SICK distance measurement sensors is their off-axis and shiny material detection capabilities.

o Because of its advanced technology and superb optics and electronics, the DS30 has the performance of time-of flight-distance measurement sensors in a compact, proximity sensor housing.

o The DS30 has a long sensing range compared to the sensor's size and price.

o The sensor's new hybrid laser generates high gain reserves under dirty conditions for solid detection in industrial environments.

o The precise background suppression makes it possible to use the DS30 in surroundings where there are other reflectors, reflective safety clothing, shiny metal objects, etc.
