IBM TotalStorage DS4000 series delivers the following enhancements:

Overview
The IBM TotalStorage® DS4000 series midrange disk systems now offer the option to add new high capacity DS4000 Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) disk drives. Additionally, the DS4000 series expands advanced copy service functions on the DS4100 SATA disk system, and the withdrawal from marketing of EXP700 Switched ESMs feature for the DS4000 EXP700 Storage Expansion Unit has been rescinded.
DS4000 SATA 400 GB/7200 RPM disk drive module
A new, higher capacity SATA disk drive module is now available for the DS4000 series midrange disk systems. The DS4000 SATA 400 GB/7200 rpm disk drive module is available for the DS4100 SATA Midrange Disk System and the DS4000 EXP100 SATA Storage Expansion Units. In order to take full advantage of the new SATA 400 GB/7200 disk drive and ensure investment protection, DS4000 series products require the installation of minimum firmware levels as described in the Limitations section of this announcement.
DS4100 advanced copy services features
DS4000 VolumeCopy and FlashCopy®/VolumeCopy advanced copy service features are now available for the DS4100 SATA disk system.
EXP700 Switched ESM feature
The original withdrawal from marketing of EXP700 Switched ESMs feature (#3501) for the DS4000 EXP700 Storage Expansion Unit has been rescinded and will remain available until further notice.

Description
DS4000 SATA 400 GB/7200 RPM disk drive module
The DS4000 SATA 400 GB disk drive module, feature (#4603) is designed to operate at 7200 rpm, and provide increased physical storage capacity for entry-level and midrange solutions supporting data archiving, reference data, and near-line storage applications. You can install up to fourteen 400 GB SATA disk drive modules (DDMs) into the internal drive bays of both the DS4100 SATA Midrange Disk System (1724-100) and the DS4000 EXP100 SATA Storage Expansion Unit (1710-10U) and increase the physical storage capacity of each of these devices up to 5.6 terabytes (TB) per enclosure.
The maximum capacity for the DS4100 SATA disk system can be increased by up to 44.8 TB physical storage capacity by use of the 400 GB SATA DDM and the DS4100 4th-7th EXP100 Attachment feature (#7369) which supports attachment of up to a maximum of seven EXP100s.
The DS4000 EXP100 SATA Storage Expansion Unit can also be attached to the DS4800, DS4500, DS4400, and DS4300 midrange disk systems. Dependent upon the selected DS4000 disk system, up to 89.6 TB physical storage capacity can be configured using the 400 GB/7200 SATA DDMs.
Additionally, the FC/SATA Enclosure Intermix option can help you tailor your use of both FC and SATA DDMs on select DS4000 disk system configurations. The Intermix option is designed to provide high-utilization and high-access capabilities associated with FC disk storage, as well as provide capabilities for fixed content and data reference applications that may require large amounts of storage capacity, all within the same DS4000 system.
