Discover Mazak - Northeast Event Targets Real-World Manufacturing Applications

Florence, Kentucky - Encompassing more than a traditional open house, Discover Mazak - Northeast at the companyʼs Northeast Regional Headquarters and Technology Center will focus on specific medical and aerospace part manufacturing solutions, and on those solutions for other key regional industries. The two-day event is scheduled for May 17 and 18, and attendees are encouraged to come prepared with their most challenging medical, aerospace, or other industry-specific parts and projects.

Throughout each day of Discover Mazak - Northeast, a wide variety of keynote-speaker
presentations, breakout sessions and real-world application machining demonstrations
will be conducted at multiple times, allowing attendees to configure their schedules to
include all of the activities that are most important to their unique operations. This same schedule will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day, so visitors can attend either the first or second day without missing any valuable information.

Mazakʼs Northeast Regional Headquarters and Technology Center is conveniently
located near Bradley International Airport, in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, between
Hartford, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts. The facility will have on-hand the latest industry and part-specific machine tool technologies to help attendees develop and test new part processes. Those processes can then be further enhanced through Mazakʼs VIP Program partner companies and other manufacturing suppliers that will be on hand to offer their newest and most effective technologies and processes for specific part machining applications.

Among the Mazak machines that will be processing actual medical and aerospace
components are the INTEGREX i-150 for knee liner components; the VARIAXIS 730 for
aerospace components; the QUICK TURN NEXUS 100MY for medical development
work; and the HORIZONTAL CENTER NEXUS 4000 (automated with Mazakʼs 6-station,
single-level PALLETECH system) for orthopedic implant components. Additional Mazak
machines geared toward medical and aerospace work being demonstrated include the HYPER QUADREX 150MSY CNC twin spindle/twin turret Multi-Tasking turning center,
the QUICK TURN SMART 100 two-axis turning center, the new VERTICAL CENTER
SMART 430 3-axis vertical machining center, the INTEGREX 200 IV-ST Multi-Tasking
machine, and, for the first time in the Northeast region, the new INTEGREX j-200 Multi-
Tasking machine.

With laser cuttingʼs increased use in medical and aerospace applications, the Discover
Mazak - Northeast event will also feature a laser cutting system from Mazak Optonics
Corporation. The system will showcase Mazak Optonicsʼ HyperLean(TM) manufacturing
technology that involves design features for accelerating the cutting process while
simultaneously maximizing beam on time. Attendees will see how the system is
specifically designed to integrate "intelligent" automation features with superior cutting speeds to assist in implementing the efficiencies of Lean Manufacturing initiatives while improving throughput.

"What makes Discover Mazak - Northeast unique is that the latest Mazak machine tool
technology, along with the most advanced tooling innovations, will be demonstrated by
processing actual medical and aerospace components made from various materials,
including polymers, titanium and many others currently being used in those industries,"
said Steve Wilkins, general manager of the Mazak Northeast Regional Headquarters
and Technology Center. "At this type of regional event, the customer's expertise in the
design and functionality of his particular part comes together with the deep knowledge
of leading technology providers to achieve break-through, cost-slashing manufacturing
strategies."

Additionally, Discover Mazak - Northeast attendees can take advantage of the
Northeast Regional Headquarters and Technology Centerʼs regional industry expertise
and its process and application engineering resources tailored to those and other
industries. Mazak Technology Center engineers and technicians, as well as those from
Sandvik Coromant and LNS (both Mazak VIP Program partners), along with Royal
Products, Fanuc integrator Automation Cells and Equipment (ACE), Kennametal, and
others, will be readily available to discuss all aspects of the manufacturing process,
including cutting tools, laser cutting, workholding, automation, material handling, quality assurance, chip handling, coolant and hydraulics, safety, and software.

Interactive breakout session topics will cover Mazakʼs Five Levels of Multi-Tasking,
machine automation and tending, and effective machining techniques for several key
materials being used in the medical and aerospace industries. There will also be special "myth-busting" sessions involving Mazakʼs MX Hybrid Roller Guide System and its
MAZATROL levels of controls. Mazak Optonics will also present its popular "Automated
Recovery" session focused on increasing laser-cutting capacity without the burden of
adding manpower.
