New Disc Varistors Ideal for Surge Protection Applications

Bradford, PA - July 30, 2002 - A new line of metal oxide disc type varistors is now available from KOA Speer Electronics. NVD series varistors offer superior transient voltage suppression characteristics and a wide varistor voltage range. These leaded components also feature the ability to withstand higher surge currents. NVD series varistors are designed for use in surge/transient protection applications.

KOA Speer NVD series varistors are non-polarized and available in sizes 5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 14mm and 20mm (diameter). Varistor voltage ranges are from 20V - 27V to 1700V - 1980V. Maximum allowable voltage ratings range from 14V to 1000V (AC) and 18V to 1465V (DC). Maximum peak current ratings range from 125A to 7000A and capacitance ratings from 70pF to 10,000pF. All ratings are dependent upon the type of varistor selected. NVD varistors feature UL94V-0 rated flame-retardant coating and are available in ammo or bulk packaging.

NVD series varistors may be utilized in a variety of applications where surge protection is vital including automotive, audio equipment, computer components, primary and secondary batteries, security and fire alarm systems, telecommunications equipment, toys and transformers.
