Allegro Microsystems, Inc. Launches a New Two-Wire, Direction Detection Gear-Tooth Sensor with Diagnostic Output
Accurate and Repeatable Switching Over Temperature with Wide Operating Air Gap
Worcester, MA - June 8, 2004 - MicroSystems, Inc. announces a new optimized Hall-effect sensor integrated circuit and magnet combination that provides a user-friendly solution for digital gear-tooth sensing and true zero-speed direction-detection in two-wire applications. The sensor consists of a single-shot molded plastic package that includes a samarium cobalt magnet, a pole piece, and a Hall-effect IC that has been optimized to the magnetic circuit. This small package can be easily assembled and used in conjunction with a wide variety of gear shapes and sizes. The sensor is ideal for obtaining speed, direction and diagnostic information using gear-tooth-based targets found in ABS and transmission applications.
The Hall-effect sensor is a single chip solution that integrates three highly sensitive Hall elements and precise signal processing circuitry and switches in response to magnetic signals created by ferrous gear teeth. The circuitry contains a sophisticated digital circuit to minimize the effects of magnet and system offsets and to achieve optimal, true zero-speed operation. Signal optimization occurs each time the sensor is re-powered. Internal circuitry maintains signal optimization and encodes diagnostic information in the output signal of the sensor.
The regulated current output is configured for two-wire operation with direction and diagnostic capabilities incorporated into the speed signal. Targeted at the automotive market, Allegro's newest sensor is priced at $5.19 in quantities up to 1,000.
