Seiko Instruments Inc. Unveils Best-in-Class Thermal Printing Mechanism

Compact, rugged, high-performance CAP9300 is ideal for kiosks, ATMs and other demanding, outdoor applications.

TORRANCE, Calif. - June 1, 2005 - Seiko Instruments USA Inc., Micro Printer Division, has announced the introduction of the CAP9300, an innovative new direct thermal printer mechanism that offers a market leading performance package. A unique combination of fast print speed, wide operating temperature range, high reliability and small footprint makes this new mechanism ideal for outdoor kiosks and other challenging applications such ATMs and gasoline dispensers.

The new CAP9300 mechanism features a 3-inch paper width, highly compact dimensions of 112x50x30mm, print resolution of 8 dots/mm, and print speed up to 250 mm/s. Its operating temperature range of -20 to 60 degrees C solves a key challenge with thermal printing in terms of creating images consistently in cold environments. Reliability is specified as 150 kilometers of paper, 150 million pulses and 1 million cuts for long life and minimal maintenance. Paper stock of 60 to 150 mm in thickness can be accommodated to handle receipts and technical data as well as tickets with the option of a curved or straight paper path for maximum design and output flexibility.

"The CAP9300 is an extraordinary performer with very fast printing in a footprint that's significantly smaller than anything else available," said Bob Falco, director and division manager, Seiko Instruments USA Inc., Micro Printer Division. "Its combination of print speed, print quality, protective casing, and compact format makes it an ideal design-in component for virtually any thermal printing application. It is especially well suited to applications with environmental challenges."

The CAP9300 is available with or without a built-in, slide-type auto cutter that provides full or partial cut. The platen can be quickly and easily removed for paper loading and maintenance. Parallel, serial or USB interfaces are available with Windows XP/2000 compatibility. Operating voltage range is 21.6 to 26.4 Vp (4.75 to 5.25 Vcc).

Following the CAP9300 will be a 2-inch CAP9200 and 4-inch CAP9400. In addition, the performance capabilities of the CAP9000 Series mechanisms will be incorporated into a series of printer subassemblies combining printer mechanism, controller board and paper holder in a self-contained unit ready for installation.

Each unit is backed by a one-year factory warranty and the "SII Secure" customer support commitment, which includes application engineering assistance, software development and customization, comprehensive technical documentation, customer training, and technical and service support.

Seiko Instruments Inc. offers a complete family of direct thermal printing solutions for embedded applications in paper widths of 2, 3 and 4 inches as well as a wide range of operating voltages and print speeds.
