Diodes Incorporated Extends USB Port Protection with Single Channel Power Switches

DALLAS- Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD), a leading global manufacturer and supplier of high-quality application specific standard products within the broad discrete, logic and analog semiconductor markets, today has added 8 devices to its single channel power switch product line. Optimized for use in self-powered and bus-powered USB2.0/3.0 and other hot-swap applications such as portable computing, smart phones, and consumer entertainment, the AP23x1 and AP21x1D high-side, current limited power switches provide complete channel protection solutions for the current range from 0.5A to 2.0A.

The 2A rated AP2301 (active low enable) and AP2311 (active high enable) offer an improvement in on-resistance at just 70m" and an extended choice of industry standard packages, including the new space-saving 8-leaded DFN3x3. The devices' fast short circuit response time of 2µs helps prevent spurious system shutdown or restart and improves system robustness. Ensuring accurate current limiting at a maximum of 2.85A, the AP23x1 power switches also help reduce power rail requirements and overall system cost.

The AP21x1D series power switches offer current ratings of 0.5A, 1.0A and 1.5A, and both polarities of enable input. To ensure completely controlled discharging of the voltage stored on the output capacitor when the devices are disabled, all power switches integrate a dedicated output discharge function.

Providing complete protection for applications exposed to the risk of heavy capacitive loads or short circuits, these single channel power switches provide reverse current blocking, over-current, over-temperature and short-circuit protection as well as controlled rise-time and under-voltage lockout functionality. In addition, a 7ms deglitch on the flag output prevents false over-current reporting without the need for any external components.
