Coherent Debuts World's Highest Power TEM00 Diode-Pumped CW Green Laser

Santa Clara, Calif., February 23, 2004 - Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) (Nasdaq: COHR) introduces the latest addition to its successful Verdi(TM) product family, the Verdi-V18. The Verdi-V18 is a diode-pumped, solid-state laser that delivers >18W of 532 nm output, making it ideal for high-power, continuous-wave (CW) materials processing and scientific applications.

"The V18 represents the world's highest power diode-pumped TEM00 CW green laser," said Paul Somerville, Coherent product line manager, "which makes it a perfect solution for power-hungry applications, such as pumping modelocked and CW Ti:Sapphire and dye lasers, holography and certain annealing processes. And since it's the same size as our current 10-watt Verdi laser, customers won't need to reconfigure existing systems. It's just a simple drop-in replacement."

"This substantial power increase is a considerable benefit for Ti:Sapphire ultrafast laser users," added Marco Arrigoni, director of marketing for Coherent's scientific business unit. For example, it allows users to pump multiple Mira oscillators, to comfortably operate these lasers at the extreme end of their tuning ranges, and to increase the output power and repetition rate of our CW-pumped ultrafast amplifier, RegA(TM) 9000. The increased output power from Mira, in turn, benefits users of OPO or harmonic generation devices."

The inherently stable single-frequency design of the V18 allows the laser to deliver stable, high-power light, with an optical noise specification of less than 0.04% rms, measured from 10 Hz to 1 GHz. Field-replaceable, aluminum-free active area (AAA) diode laser modules pump the Verdi-V18. Manufactured by Coherent, these diode modules demonstrate outstanding lifetimes. For maximum efficiency, the Verdi-V18 incorporates a closed-loop feedback system that continuously controls the precise wavelength emitted from the pump laser modules, resulting in even longer diode life and, ultimately, a lower cost of ownership.
