Diode Lasers can focus to micron line sizes.

Press Release Summary:

Lepton V lasers generate collimated line, making them suitable for waveguides, modulators and machine vision applications. Systems create wavefront characteristics suitable for focusing or imaging and eliminate need for additional cylindrical and collimation optics. By using focusing lens, they can generate diffraction limited line. Lasers are available with 6 to 18mm linewidth, and in various wavelengths and power levels.

Lepton V Collimated Lines

Features
* 6mm, 11mm up to 18mm linewidth
* Highly collimated
* Diffraction limited
* Various wavelengths and power levels
* Compact packaging
* Can focus to micron line sizes
* Excellent for waveguides, modulators, machine vision applications

The Lepton V Series of diode lasers generates a collimated line versus a fan line which is typically found in line generators. The advantage of using a collimated line is more energy in the line, same dimensions along the path, superior wavefront characteristics for focusing or imaging.

The method used here eliminates any need for additional cylindrical and collimation optics making for a compact package. You can then use a focusing lens and generate a diffraction limited line.

Various wavelengths and output powers are available to suit most applications. Temperature controlled versions are also available for fixing the frequency.
