Digital Viscosity Meter Expands Real Time Viscosity Measurement Into New Process Applications

A new real-time digital viscosity meter, designed to eliminate the need for a sample loop, has been introduced by Solartron Mobrey of Houston, Texas.

This new viscometer, named Visconic, is a long-stemmed, in-line, vibrating-fork viscosity meter that can be installed directly into large-bore pipes and tanks. This installation capability allows for use of the meter in process applications where real-time viscosity measurement was never before possible. Visconic is ideal for in-line measurement of dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity and density; it significantly improves liquid handling efficiency for a wide range of end-of-line processes such as spraying, atomizing, coating, and dipping.

Available in lengths of 20", 40", 80", 120" and 134", Visconic can be installed directly into the process line with the vibrating fork element in the center of the flow where conditions are most representative. As a result, the measurement is both more accurate and more stable.

The new long-stemmed versions can be top-mounted in process tanks, avoiding problems with the complex flow patterns caused by agitators and stirrers. In addition, the top-mounting capability allows Visconic to be used where heated jackets or special linings make side-wall insertion impossible.

An intelligent transmitter, Visconic incorporates advanced electronics to carry out all signal processing and calculation. Output is a 4-20mA signal via an RS232/485 Modbus interface for continuous monitoring of multiple parameters.
