Digital-to-Analog Converter IC features 2 Vrms line driver.

Press Release Summary:

Intended for digital audio applications, 24-bit Model CS4353 features on-chip 2.1 Vrms line driver from single 3.3 V power supply, allowing 2 Vrms voltage after RC filter. Device supports audio sampling rates up to 192 kHz, and is based on 5th-order multi-bit Delta Sigma converter architecture with low latency digital filtering to provide 106 dB dynamic range and -93 dB THD+N. Specific applications include effects processors, musical instruments, and digital audio recorders.

Cirrus Logic Digital-to-Analog Converter Cuts System Costs, Simplifies Consumer Electronics Designs

CS4353 Features On-Chip 2 Vrms Line Driver from 3.3-Volt Power Supply and Improves Audio Quality

AUSTIN, Texas - Oct. 6, 2008 - Cirrus Logic Inc., (Nasdaq: CRUS) has introduced the CS4353 24-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC), the latest in its leading portfolio of audio converter ICs for digital audio applications. The CS4353 is the third generation Cirrus Logic audio DAC with integrated 2VRMS line drivers and marks significant progress in simplifying the design of analog output sections circuitry by reducing the need for multiple system components and lowering implementation cost.
The CS4353 is the only DAC to feature an on-chip 2.1 VRMS line driver from a single 3.3-volt power supply, allowing a 2VRMS voltage after the RC filter. Other DACs that feature a line driver require noisy high voltage power supplies. They also output a lower voltage than required by many of today's consumer electronics applications, such as set-top boxes, Blu-ray® Disc players, game consoles and digital televisions.

"The CS4353 is evidence of our commitment to provide engineers audio DACs that are incredibly easy to design their product around without the need for bulky, expensive off-chip support circuitry," said Carl Alberty, director of Marketing, Cirrus Logic's Mixed Signal Audio Division. "Delivering a 2VRMS, ground referenced single-ended output from a 3.3V supply does just that and doesn't sacrifice audio quality or analog performance at all."

The CS4353 supports 24-bit conversion, all audio sampling rates up to 192 kHz, and is based on a fifth-order multibit Delta Sigma converter architecture with low latency digital filtering to provide 106 dB dynamic range and -93 dB THD+N. Its ground-centered output architecture not only improves low frequency response but also allows for the removal of external DC blocking capacitors and any pop prevention circuitry.
In addition to targeting consumer electronics applications, the CS4353 is also ideal for other digital audio equipment such as effects processors, musical instruments, digital audio recorders and automotive audio systems.

Pricing and Availability

The CS4353 is currently available in a 24-pin QFN package, priced at $1.28 in quantities of 10,000.
