Digital Motor Control Modules meet SIL 3/PL e safety requirements.

Press Release Summary:

Fail-safe digital DM-F Local modules safely shut down motor in response to local fail-safe signal from sensor or controller, while DM-F Profisafe modules receive fail-safe signal via Profibus from fail-safe controller. Both are controlled by Simocode pro motor management device for safe shutdown of motors in process automation, and are configured using Simocode ES software. Simocode pro connects to automation systems via Profibus and covers functions between motor feeder and automation system.

Original Press Release:

Safe Shutdown of Motors up to SIL 3/PL e in Process Automation

Two new fail-safe digital modules from the Siemens Industry Automation Division are implemented with the motor management system Simocode pro for safe shutdown of motors in process automation. The modules DM-F Profisafe and DM-F Local fulfill the requirements of the IEC 61508/62061 and ISO 13849-1 standards for functional safety up to SIL 3/PL e. DM-F Local safely shuts down the motor in response to a local fail-safe signal from a sensor or controller, DM-F Profisafe receives the fail-safe signal via Profibus from a fail-safe controller. Simocode and the two new modules are configured using the Simocode ES software. For fail-safe applications with DM-F Profisafe, ready-to-use library blocks certified by the German Technical Inspectorate (TÃœV) are available in the Step 7 option packages Distributed Safety and S7 F-Systems.

Simocode pro is a flexible and modular motor management system for motors in the low-voltage performance range. The system can be connected to higher-level automation systems via Profibus and covers the functions between the motor feeder and the automation system. Simocode pro combines all the necessary protection, monitoring and control functions for each motor feeder in a compact system. The motor management system offers complete, multi-functional electronic protection; safe shutdown of motors; integrated control functions; as well as detailed operation, service and diagnostics data. These functions are also provided autonomously by the automation system.
