Original Press Release:

Microscope Systems for Digital Inspection and Measurement

Heerbrugg, Switzerland. With the new digital microscope systems Leica DMS300 and Leica DMS1000, Leica Microsystems unites all advantages of digital technology with first-class camera performance and high-end optics. Inspection, measurement or documentation – all individual work steps are visualized in crystal clear images on an HD monitor, without the need of an eyepiece.

With its unique FlexAperture™ technology for consistent illumination throughout the zoom range and coded optics for precise and reliable results, the Leica DMS1000 is an ideal instrument for demanding tasks in quality control, research and development. Offered as a complete system solution, the Leica DMS300 is optimized for easy and fast quality control, inspection and documentation in industrial applications. For in-vitro-applications, the special version Leica DMS1000 B completes the new product group.

Crystal-clear images, perfect overview

Zoom optics provide natural reproduction without an eyepiece and a perfect overview of the specimen. Ultra-high-speed live images with up to 30 images per second minimize any image delay, making inspection of the sample, or observation of an experiment, simple, easy and reliable. The images are provided by a high-performance digital camera via HDMI interface on an HD monitor or on a computer screen via USB interface. The camera can also be operated entirely independently with the included infrared remote control.

Leica DMS300 – a complete system for industrial applications

The Leica DMS300 is optimally suited for digital inspection and documentation tasks in industrial applications. Even large objects can be handled easily thanks to the swing-arm stand. The LED ring-light with a diffusor minimizes interfering light-reflexes of the specimen. Easy handling of images for analysis and documentation is supported by the Leica LAS EZ software and its user-friendly interface.

Leica DMS1000 – for optimized digital workflows in research and development

For optimized digital workflows in research and development the Leica DMS1000 scores with dedicated optical features. Thanks to the encoded zoom feature, the user can make quick measurement checks with the scale bar that adjusts automatically for each zoom setting.

The Leica DMS1000 can be outfitted with telecentric optics for accurate measurement. The FlexApertureTM technology automatically provides for constant light quality and exposure times at all zoom ranges. This means in manual mode, there is no need to readjust the camera settings. A faster change from overview to enlarged detail is achieved by the parcentric and parfocal optics.

Leica DMS1000 B for in-vitro-applications

With the Leica DMS1000 B, Leica Microsystems offers a special version of the new digital microscopy system for in-vitro-applications such as stem cell research and artificial fertilization. As the specimen can be observed without eyepieces, the experiment can be carried out in closed laminar floor cabinets. This way, the risk of contaminating the specimen is kept to a minimum.

A perfect combination: high-precision optics plus high-performance camera

The new Leica digital microscope systems are a perfect combination of high-precision optics and a high-performance microscope camera. The CMOS camera can capture up to 5.0 Megapixel (Leica DMS300: 2.5 Megapixel) still images or Full-HD movie clips, all within seconds directly to an SD card without the need of a computer. All camera parameters can be controlled directly via the infrared remote control: faster changeover between different camera modes, performing a white balance operation, capturing movie clips for fast documentation and hands-on training or saving directly to an SD card.
