Digital Microscope features 16-bit imaging resolution.

Press Release Summary:

Along with brightness range covering 65,536 levels and 2.8 Trillion color capacity, VHX-600 Generation II Digital Microscope features High Dynamic Range (HDR) function that enables graphic engine to create images in 16-bit gradation through acquisition of RGB data from each pixel. System's 3CCD Handheld Camera includes pixel-shift actuator, achieving observation with resolution of up to 54 million pixels, and uses flicker-free progressive scan method.

Original Press Release:

New Generation of Digital Microscopes with World's First 16-bit Resolution

The new KEYENCE VHX-600 Generation II Digital Microscope now features the world's first 16-bit imaging resolution. This resolution increase makes subtle color differences visible, and optimizes areas that were previously too dark or bright. The brightness range has been increased from the previous 256 levels to 65,536 levels. Likewise, the 3CCD color clarity has improved from 16 million to over 2.8 Trillion colors.

With the High Dynamic Range function (HDR), the advanced high performance graphic engine creates images in 16-bit gradation through the acquisition of RGB data from each pixel. When compared to conventional 8-bit data processing, infinitely more detailed profiles can be acquired and represented.

By combining KEYENCE's advanced sensor technology and accumulated microscopy/optical expertise, a brand new technology has been formed, known as the DOUBLE'R automatic lens/zoom recognition system. Now it is possible for the VHX to not only recognize, in real time, which lens is mounted to the camera, but also the current magnification being viewed. Calibration is automatically adjusted every time the magnification is changed. In addition, the magnification setting required for 3D observation, is also unnecessary. The usual mistakes that are made when selecting magnification will not occur, resulting in faster, more accurate measurements.

The VHX-600 Generation II Digital Microscope offers an extraordinarily large depth-of-field that is at least 20 times greater than conventional microscopes. The 3CCD Handheld Camera includes a pixel-shift actuator, achieving observation with ultra-high resolution of up to 54 million pixels despite its' compact size. A flicker-free progressive scan method allows texture expression and color reproduction similar to observation with the naked eye. A wide selection of high-resolution, leading-edge RZ optical design zoom lenses, with up to 5000x magnification, provides superior image quality with excellent chromatic aberration correction.

Targets can be freely observed with the camera/lens unit either handheld or mounted in the multi-angle viewing stand. The observation can be performed at all angles without manipulating the target. Through simple mouse operations, the VHX-600 Generation II performs real-time, on-screen measurement of the distance, radius, angle and area of the target.
