ADMET Announces Tenacity Meter for Textile Testing

NORWOOD, Mass. - Nov. 10, 2003 - ADMET(TM) Inc., a provider of integrated materials testing systems, today announced the pi Tenacity Meter, a digital force indicator for measuring the breaking strength and tenacity of fibers, yarns and fabrics. The pi Tenacity Meter is ADMET's lowest-cost solution for updating analog-based tensile testing machines used to test textiles.

The pi Tenacity Meter makes it easy for manufacturers to step up from the manual dial gage or pen recorder-based systems that are still widely used in the industry. The unit can be retrofitted to existing testing machines to eliminate potential errors when interpreting analog dials, grid paper and hand-writing results to paper.

The pi Tenacity Meter offers several features to make operation easy and reliable. It is simple to set up and has an easy-to-read liquid crystal display (LCD). It features operator input of linear density, indication of live load, plus display of breaking strength and tenacity after the test has been completed. Results remain displayed until cleared by the operator or when the next test commences.

The pi Tenacity Meter's software programmable calibration is password protected and stored in permanent nonvolatile memory; this eliminates the need to manually adjust potentiometers. The unit includes a serial RS232 port to transmit test results to a remote computer. Designed to work with a wide range of materials testing machines from virtually any supplier, the pi Tenacity Meter is compliant with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test methods D1294, D1445, D1578, D2256, D2524, D5034 and D5035.

"The pi Tenacity Meter brings ADMET's expertise in materials testing to textiles," said Richard Gedney, ADMET founder and president. "As fabrics become more sophisticated and more specialized, textile manufacturers must provide consistent, measurable quality. For much less than the cost of a new machine, the pi Tenacity Meter offers excellent accuracy, digital display of test results plus automatic transfer of results to a remote computer, which will eliminate errors and save time and money."

The pi Tenacity Meter is priced at $595 and is available immediately directly from ADMET, as well as from ADMET representatives and calibrators. ADMET also offers pre-wired load cells plus grips and fixtures.
