Original Press Release:

Compact, Digital 30 MHz EMI/EMC Receiver from Teseq Enables Fully CISPR 16 Compliant Measurements on Frequencies Up to 6 GHz

Edison, N.J. May 2009 - Teseq Inc., a leading developer and provider of instrumentation and systems for EMC emissions and immunity testing, now offers a low cost, high performance, 30 MHz digital EMI/EMC receiver with flexible measurement parameters on frequencies up to 6 GHz that meet all current industry testing standards, while enabling easy upgrades for future requirements. Teseq is the exclusive North American distributor for PMM, a brand of Narda Safety Test Solutions srl, which manufactures the compact, modular PMM 9010 receiver.

The new PMM 9010 uses analog-to-digital conversion and powerful digital signal processing to eliminate aging of critical parts that could degrade measurement accuracy and provide more stable performance than analog receivers. The CISPR detectors, IF and RBW filters are all absolutely stable and feature lifetime, calibration-free operation.

Using the unique "Smart Detector" function, the receiver provides fast scanning using only the peak detector. As peaks that exceed the preset thresholds are found, they are immediately measured with the slower detectors before stepping to the next frequency, saving considerable time when compared to rescanning, especially for EUTs (equipment under test) that are only operated for short periods of time, such as appliances and electric tools.

Fully compliant with the latest CISPR 16-1-1 standards, including the new RMS-AVG (root mean square-average) detector, APD (amplitude probability distribution) for testing above 1 GHz as well as peak, average and quasi-peak modes, the new PMM 9010 is ideal for use in small labs as well as commercial test labs for any application that requires fast, reliable compliant measurements, including military and automotive.

The compact receiver weighs only 9 lbs and is useful in both stand-alone systems and integrated as part of larger systems for manual, semiautomatic and fully automatic testing requirements. Rechargeable internal batteries also provide enhanced portability for use in field testing applications where power sources are scarce.

A fully compliant CISPR 14-1 click meter option automatically evaluates the click rate N, applies the use of exceptions, if applicable, and provides click measurement using the upper quartile method with a full report that includes all mandatory data. The PMM 9010 shows all click details and mandatory reporting parameters in real-time with reports generated via the included PC software application. The PMM 9010's unique "Smart Measure" feature, developed exclusively by Narda, dramatically speeds up the click test. The 9010 can be configured as a single or four channel click meter.

Most key components, including the A/D converter and RF signal generator, can be easily swapped out in the field with factory-calibrated replacement modules. The system firmware is easily field upgraded to add new measurement features such as detectors, MIL-461 RBW filters or new required measurement methods to maintain standards compliance.

The RF front end is self-calibrated by a high-stability internal RF signal generator. Providing 60 to 90 dBuV in 0.1 dB steps, the signal generator can work in tracking mode up to a frequency of 50 MHz enabling the PMM 9010 to be used as a scalar network analyzer for characterizing components, antennas and filters.

For debugging applications, the PMM 9010 can also perform spectrum analyzer functions with a very high scan speed of less than 100 ms for full-span 9 kHz to 30 MHz at an IF resolution of 300 kHz.

A PMM 9010 with the single channel click meter option starts at under $3,000; full systems start at under $20,000.
