Honeywell Introduces UDC2500 Controller

Low Cost 1/4DIN Controller Offers Power, Versatility

PHOENIX, July 28, 2004 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON) Process Solutions today announced the release for sale of the UDC2500 Universal Digital Controller. Built on the legacy of Honeywell's field-proven UDC controller family, the UDC2500 introduces new features in the popular low priced ¼ DIN size while retaining the reliability, cost effectiveness, simplicity, and popular HMI of Honeywell's UDC 2300 controller. The new UDC2500 monitors and controls temperature, pressure, flow, level and other process variables in applications such as furnaces and ovens, environmental chambers, packaging machinery and plastic processing machines. The UDC2500 Controller features a standard NEMA 4X/IP66-rated front faceplate that allows it to be used in environments where it may be subjected to moisture, dust or hose-down conditions. An infrared communications port with accompanying Instrument Explorer software enables fast and secure controller configuration via a Pocket PC, laptop or desktop computer through a non-intrusive wireless connection. Multiple configurations may be stored for review, modification or archiving. An available Ethernet or RS-485 connection allows the UDC2500 to connect to plant networks and exchange data with computers or other devices on the network for monitoring or for managing the process from other plant locations.

Standard UDC2500 features also include Honeywell's Accutune III automatic tuning algorithm that employs fuzzy logic to suppress process variable overshoot. Accutune III may be used on heating, cooling and heat/cool duplex applications. For temperature control applications UDC2500 diagnostics monitors the condition of the thermocouple input and alerts the operator of an imminent failure, reducing process downtime and eliminating product rework. Dual vacuum fluorescent displays provide continuous readout of the process variable and other operator-selected values such as alarm setpoints, configuration settings, tuning values and more. Multilanguage prompts support controller configuration in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Field changeable universal outputs and a jumper-free configuration result in reduced inventory costs and reduced setup time. UDC2500 approval body ratings include UL, CE and CSA. An FM-approved Limit Controller model is also available. The UDC2500 is covered by an 18-month warranty. The UDC2500 is the first of three new controllers planned for release that comprise the Next Generation UDC Controller family. Models planned for future release include the UDC3200 and the UDC3500.
