Differential Multiplexers switch up to 20 channels.

Press Release Summary:

Solid-state 7710 multiplexer modules offer automatic cold junction compensation capability for temperature measurement with thermocouples. They accommodate differential signals up to 60 V and 0.1 A and have insertion loss of less than 3 dB up to 2 MHz. Model 7700 differential multiplexers include latching electromechanical relays, which enable signal bandwidths up to 50 MHz. They handle signals up to 300 V and 1.0 A, with insertion loss of less than 3 dB up to 50 MHz.

Original Press Release:

Keithley's Two 20-Channel Switching Modules Allow High Reliability, Instrument-Grade Measurements at Bandwidths up to 50MHz

CLEVELAND-September 10, 2002-Keithley Instruments, Inc. (NYSE:KEI) today introduced a new multiplexer card and an upgrade to another one for its Integra Series Data Acquisition/Switch platform. The new Model 7710 Solid-State Multiplexer Module is a 20-channel, differential multiplexer with automatic cold junction compensation (CJC) capability for temperature measurement with thermocouples. Solid-state relays used in the Model 7710 provide 100 times longer lifetime than mechanical relays. The Model 7700 Differential Multiplexer also provides 20 channels and CJC, but has been upgraded with latching electromechanical relays that enable signal bandwidths up to 50MHz.

Applications and Markets. The Model 7710, with its solid-state relays, offers low maintenance in industrial applications for a wide variety of measurements, including DC and AC voltage, current, two-wire ohms, and four-wire ohms, as well as temperature with RTDs and thermistors. Scan rates up to 500 channel/s are possible. When the 7710 card is used with the Model 2701 Ethernet DMM/Acquisition System mainframe, up to 3500 DC readings/s are possible on a single channel. The solid-state relays also provide quiet operation, high reliability, long life, and economy that exceed competitive offerings. These characteristics are particularly important in high demand production and industrial monitoring applications that must operate continuously for long periods. The increased reliability of solid-state switches is also important where difficulty in accessing equipment makes routine servicing complicated and expensive.

The Model 7700 satisfies the needs of test and measurement users who require a high bandwidth signal path with low insertion loss up to 50MHz. Typical applications are measurements involving high frequency signals and digital pulses, such as testing of Ethernet, RS-232, digital control, and other communication components and modules. Another example is DC power supply burn-in and associated testing to characterize high frequency ripple, phase margin, and transient response.

Combined with the Integra mainframes, the Keithley Series 7700 modules serve a wide range of industries and applications, including production testing of electronic components, subassemblies and systems, semiconductors, accelerated stress testing (including HALT/HASS, ESS, and bum-in), process monitoring and control, research, and education. For example, when the Model 7700 Series are installed in the Model 2750 mainframe, the wide measurement range of the system can handle applications normally reserved for more expensive micro-ohm meters. This makes these systems ideal for mission-critical resistance measurements of connectors, harnesses, airbag squibs, sensors, semiconductors, and other low ohm devices.

Superior Performance at a Low Cost. The 7710 module can accommodate differential signals of up to 60V and 0.1A, and has insertion loss less than 3dB up to 2MHz. The 7700 module handles signals up to 300V and 1.0A, with insertion loss less than 3dB up to 50MHz for straight-through connections (signals not connected to DMM backplane). Both modules have easy connect/disconnect features for fast setup and calibration. They tolerate common mode voltages up to 300V for added measurement safety and integrity. This is significantly better than typical solid-state switch PC plug-in boards and other data acquisition systems, which typically have input and common mode maximums of only 10V.

Additional modules in the Keithley Series 7700 can handle signals of up to 300V and 2A, and provide digital I/O to manage a variety of control tasks. This growing family of Integra plug-in modules and mainframes provides the industry's lowest installed cost per-channel for high performance data acquisition and control. The Series 7700 is compatible with Keithley's powerful Model 2701 Ethernet DMM/Acquisition System, the Model 2700 Multimeter/Data Acquisition System, and the Model 2750 Multimeter/Switch System. These systems offer superior 22-bit (6-1/2-digit) resolution, high channel counts, and a variety of connector types, including screw terminal, D-sub, IDC, and SMA for additional flexibility.

Price and Availability: The base price of the Model 7710 Switching Module is $595; the price of the Model 7700 Module is $395. Availability is immediate.
