Original Press Release:

TI'S Expanded Fully-Differential Amplifier Portfolio Drives Easy Interface to High-Speed Analog-to-Digital Converters

DALLAS (Oct. 26, 2005) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) introduced today three additions to its high-performance family of low noise, low distortion fully-differential amplifiers that drive high-speed analog-to-digital converters (ADC) in demanding applications such as test and measurement, medical imaging, wireless infrastructure and industrial applications. (Please see www.ti.com/sc05238.) Providing more flexibility to meet the needs of high-speed data acquisitions systems, the family allows designers to choose between high gain and unity gain stable, and between negative and mid-supply input common-mode voltages.

Designed for 3.3-V to 5-V data acquisition systems, the THS4511 and THS4513 unity gain stable versions, and the THS4508 amplifier are based on the previously-announced THS4509 (see www.ti.com/sc05006.) The three new devices feature fully differential architecture and 5-V single supply operation. Depending on the device, bandwidths for the devices range from 1600 to 2000 MHz with slew rates from 4900 to 6400 V/us. The amplifiers are also characterized for operation over the full industrial temperature range from -40C to +85C.

The THS4508/9/11/13 combine DC precision with exceptional noise and distortion performance. When used along with a high-speed ADC like the ADS5424, 14-bit, 105-MSPS, ADC, these features enable the designer to ensure accurate low-level signal measurements and high signal fidelity, while greatly simplifying the design process and reducing the overall solution size. In addition, these amplifiers and data converters interface well with the TMS320C6000TM DSP products in a high-performance signal chain for wideband applications.

Availability, Pricing and Support

The THS4513, THS4511 and THS4508 are available now from TI and its authorized distributors. The devices are offered in a 16-pin quad flat no-leads (QFN) package. The difference in gain and input common-mode for each device, along with pricing information, is as follows:

Evaluation modules (EVMs) and SPICE models are available for all three devices. In addition, TI offers analog engineers a wide-ranging support infrastructure that includes training and seminars, design tools and utilities, technical documentation, an online KnowledgeBase, a product information hotline and a comprehensive offering of samples that ship within 24 hours of request.
