Dial Plan optimizes bandwidth usage and call quality.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for high intensity call environments, such as call centers, SIP-based Silent Running(TM) dial-plan offers A-Z routes with early media disabled. Bandwidth is not wasted for audible signaling tones during ring state period and Upstream User Agent can rely on SIP call-progress messages. Audible tones are then synthesized for calling party to hear, if they want to.

BandTel Improves Bandwidth Usage and Call Quality for High Volume Calling Environments With 'Silent Running(TM)'

The Company's New SIP-Based Dial Plan Is Designed to Preserve Bandwidth and Offer Flawless A-Z Routes With 'Early Media Disabled'

BOSTON, VON Fall '06, Booth # 819, Sept. 12 // -- BandTel(TM), a leading global provider of next-generation VoIP termination to the PSTN for high volume telecom users, today announced 'Silent Running(TM)' -- a solution designed to solve the quality and bandwidth issues facing high intensity call environments, such as call centers and enterprises.

Transporting of legacy call-progress information to a calling party in the SIP space, known as "early media", preserves legacy-signaling techniques, but consumes bandwidth. In such heavy dialing scenarios, the effects of early media are dramatic. It is possible to have as much bandwidth consumed by transporting inbound, ring-state call progress information to a call center as with actual voice communications. With "early media enabled," a call center may need to provision as much as two or three times the amount of bandwidth to get the desired agent/call-dialed ratio needed to optimize agent utilization. Ordering this extra "wasted bandwidth" is expensive and inefficient.

Users in high-volume inbound and outbound dialing environments in the SIP space noticed the economic drawbacks of wasted bandwidth. BandTel engineered "Silent Running" -- a dial-plan solution that offers A-Z routes with "early media disabled", designed specifically for these high intensity dial applications, which produces significant bandwidth savings. Bandwidth will no longer be consumed for audible signaling tones during the ring state period. Instead, the upstream User Agent (UA) simply relies on the SIP call-progress messages. The audible tones are then synthesized for the calling party to hear, if they want to (hear the tones).

"From the beginning of IT telephony, high intensity calling environments have suffered from dealing with a low-quality, expensive, and bandwidth-consuming legacy process," stated Peter Sandstrom, CTO at BandTel. "With Silent Running, we have been able to address these issues by providing an A-Z routing solution to all international destinations."

Unlike standard compression/de-compression models, BandTel's Silent Running route does not use G.7xx CODECs to send in-band call-progress information. This saves bandwidth, which can now be utilized for actual talking. A typical call center, for example, uses (G.729), which consumes 120 kbps in bandwidth for in-bound calls. With BandTel's Silent Running route, they would be using only 30 kbps of bandwidth for in-bound calls. This produces a decrease in bandwidth by 4 times the original amount for the same amount of talk-time. Call centers can now have four agents talking to customers instead of only one agent.
