Development Partners Broaden the Value of New Avaya Mobile Emergency Communication Solution

Compatibility tested, standards-based components from Clear Channel Satellite, Extreme Networks, RAD Data Communications and Twisted Pair Solutions give customers more choices for secure, reliable communications

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., April 24 -- Development partners are broadening the value of the new Avaya Mobile Communication System (MCS) by providing compatibility-tested components and options to organizations who need secure, mobile communications for emergency response, business continuity or short-term events. The MCS, launched today by Avaya Inc. (NYSE:AV), brings together a wide range of voice and data capabilities in a fully-configured, rugged container. Avaya is a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services.

The development partners are members of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program -- an initiative to promote the development, compliance-testing and co-marketing of innovative third-party products that are compatible with standards-based Avaya solutions.

Member companies supporting the new Avaya Mobile Communication System include:

o Clear Channel Satellite. The company is providing an MVS750 Series portable satellite dish that enables broadband network connectivity for the Avaya MCS. Clear Channel Satellite is a new member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program, and compatibility testing of the dish is underway at the Avaya Solution Interoperability and Test Lab in Lincroft, N.J.

o Extreme Networks. The company's high-reliability converged network switches are configured to optimize the performance of Avaya Internet protocol (IP) telephony applications running on the Mobile Communication System. In addition, an integrated Avaya-Extreme Networks management platform dramatically simplifies systems administration of the converged mobile network.

o RAD Data Communications. The company provides an Avaya-compatible Vmux Voice Trunking Gateway that enables traditional telephony voice and signaling protocols to be extended transparently to an IP/Ethernet network. As a result, the IP-based Avaya Mobile Communication System can interoperate seamlessly with a headquarters or branch location using traditional TDM telephony.

o Twisted Pair Solutions. The company's WAVE(TM) solutions are integrated into the Avaya Mobile Communication System to enable interoperability of critical group communications. The software connects previously incompatible two-way radios often used in emergency situations so that first-responders from a variety of organizations can communicate seamlessly. The application also enables Avaya IP phones to communicate directly with two-way radio devices over the mobile network.

"With the help of Avaya DeveloperConnection members, we are able to deliver a portable communications network that has the same broad communications capabilities found in a high-tech corporate headquarters facility, with integrated features especially tailored for first responders and mobile applications," said Eric Rossman, vice president, developer relations and technical alliances, Avaya. "As a result, we're able to unleash powerful new possibilities for those on the front lines -- helping them communicate more efficiently and effectively when time is of the essence."

Clear Channel Satellite, Extreme Networks, RAD Data Communications and Twisted Pair Solutions are among more than 2,500 software and hardware developer companies, integrators, service providers and customers who are members of the Avaya DeveloperConnection program. Members have created hundreds of innovative solutions tested for Avaya compliance, including natural language speech recognition applications, wireless services, specialized computer telephony integration and reporting capabilities, communications hardware and applications tailored for specific vertical industries.
