Deutsche Post AG Mail Division Standardizes on Informatica for Data Integration

German Postal Service Turns to Informatica PowerCenter Advanced Edition to Deliver Lower Costs and Increased Operational Efficiencies

FRANKFURT, Germany, April 11 -- Informatica Corporation (NASDAQ:INFA), a leading provider of data integration software, today announced that the mail division of Deutsche Post AG, Europe's largest postal service provider, has selected Informatica PowerCenter Advanced Edition as the basis for a large-scale enterprise data integration initiative. By integrating and gaining visibility into data from more than 100 transport, mail and data centers across Germany, PowerCenter Advanced Edition will help Deutsche Post to reduce operational costs, engage in more effective planning and scheduling, and increase customer satisfaction through more efficient mail operations.

"PowerCenter Advanced Edition will be pivotal to this strategic project which will touch practically all databases in this division and involve the entire reporting structure of our corporate division," said Ralf Pankotsch, data warehouse program manager, Deutsche Post AG. "After a rigorous evaluation, Informatica proved it had the best solution to address our challenges, including integrating large amounts of data across many disparate database systems, implementing robust metadata support for improved data management, and integrating both functions into our service-oriented architecture.

"From an IT management perspective, we anticipate the simplicity and performance of Informatica's unified data integration solution will significantly reduce IT complexity, increase staff productivity and decrease our dependence on external service providers," continued Pankotsch.

Previously, Deutsche Post relied heavily on custom integration interfaces, hand-coded on a case-by-case basis. PowerCenter Advanced Edition will replace that with a consistent environment that will extract data in both batch or real time from a vast number of disparate applications -- including Microsoft Access and Excel, SAP and Oracle -- and integrate the information into the mail division's corporate data warehouse. Deutsche Post will also leverage the integrated metadata management and reporting functionality in PowerCenter Advanced Edition to better manage the massive amount of metadata that accrues in the mail division's information environment as a result of its enormous technical diversity.

"Through its use in previous smaller projects at Deutsche Post, Informatica was able to demonstrate the utility of a platform approach to enterprise data integration," said Dave Berry, senior vice president of EMEA at Informatica. "We're pleased to have been selected for such a strategic, large-scale implementation that will greatly simplify and streamline Deutsche Post's integration infrastructure and enable it to address its far-ranging integration requirements with its own team."

PowerCenter Advanced Edition is the market's most robust platform for enterprise data integration, expanding the definition of a data integration platform by incorporating metadata analysis, data-ready reporting, cost-effective grid computing and team-based development capabilities into a single offering. With PowerCenter Advanced Edition, companies can realize the benefits of a single platform that addresses the full data integration lifecycle -- helping them drive productivity and lower IT maintenance costs, and gain a substantial cost advantage with a rapid out-of-the-box experience.
