Despatch Industries Sells Highly Uniform Custom Thaw Chamber

Minneapolis, Minn., U.S.A. - Despatch Industries, the world's leading company in thermal processing solutions for over one hundred years, has sold multiple custom thawing chambers to a customer in the pharmaceutical industry. The customer will utilize the equipment to thaw bags of frozen liquid under very controlled conditions in a pharmaceutical production line.

Despatch engineered the units with three chambers to offer tight control of the rate of thaw for each batch. The precise thawing technology uses high speed horizontal airflow in a closed chamber to thaw batches as quickly as possible while maintaining uniform temperatures in each individual bag. Due to the chambers being utilized in pharmaceutical production, Despatch designed the units to be cGMP compliant and used 316L and 304 stainless steel in the construction. Despatch also created rounded, polished corners in the interior for easy cleaning.

Typically the customer would use a water bath for this application, but Despatch's custom solution offers distinct advantages. The main advantage of the thawing chamber over a water bath is that the possibility of cross contamination from leaking bags is eliminated.

"We worked very closely with the customer throughout the concept and design phase, using our knowledge of heat transfer and clean fabrication to guide the design so that not only the construction standards were met and the equipment fit in a small footprint, but so that the equipment met the process specification."
