ESI Group Introduces PAM-OPT

Detroit, January 18, 2002 - ESI Group, leading provider of virtual prototyping and manufacturing solutions, today announced the availability of PAM-OPT, its new optimization solution. PAM-OPT automates the costly time-consuming trial and error process of design and manufacturing optimization. In a conventional approach engineers iteratively use simulation or analysis software to check the performance of a design; then proceed to analyze the results, make decisions, modify the model and re-check the new design until an optimal solution is reached. PAM-OPT automates this loop, handling the decision making on design changes and the job submissions processing on a network of computers. By leveraging available corporate resources PAM-OPT helps engineers design better products with a reduced time-to-market.

Fully integrated into the Virtual Try-Out Space, PAM-OPT is well adapted to highly non-linear outputs encountered with ESI Group's simulation packages. PAM-OPT's outstanding optimization technology can also be easily used with any analysis or simulation software programs to solve complex multi- criteria and multi-disciplinary optimization problems. As an example, in the automotive industry PAM- OPT helps safety engineers optimize safety restraint systems, which is a complex task involving many constraints, by simultaneously tuning design parameters of airbags, seatbelts, knee bolsters and the steering column.

Robustness, Accuracy and Speed PAM-OPT allows engineers find solutions that could not be explored manually, and does not require advanced optimization skills. Based on an innovative proprietary technology, PAM-OPT's optimization process cannot diverge and always obtains fast results, as it requires only a limited number of solver calls. An advanced post-processing graphical interface helps users analyze with ease the global optimization results, and display intermediate output through multiple data modes.

PAM-OPT Key Features
* Solver pseudo-chaotic outputs commonly found in fast dynamic simulation are easily handled
* Various methods are used for design exploration and robustness, such as diagnostic, discrete, Monte-Carlo, Response Surface Method (RSM), and sensitivity
* Powerful graphical user interface for fast data input
*Simulation or analysis software data can be processed without programming.

Product Availability PAM-OPT is available on UNIX versions from Compaq, HP, IBM, SGI, and SUN.

About ESI Group Editor of virtual testing solutions, ESI Group is a pioneer and world leading provider of numerical simulation prototypes and manufacturing processes that take into account the physics of materials. ESI Group has developed an entire suite of coherent, industry oriented applications to realistically simulate a product's behavior during testing, to fine tune the manufacturing processes in synergy with the desired product performance, and to evaluate the environment's impact on product usage. ESI Group's product portfolio, which has been industrially validated and combined in multi-trade value chains, represents a unique collaborative, virtual engineering solution, known as the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), enabling a continuous improvement on the virtual prototype. By drastically reducing costs and development lead times, VTOS solutions offer major competitive advantages by progressively eliminating the need for physical prototypes. With revenues close to Euros 41 million in fiscal year 2000, ESI Group (Nouveau March& Euronext Paris - Software - Euroclear 6584 - Bloomberg ESI NM - Reuters ESIG.LN ) employs about 300 high-level specialists worldwide. The company and its global network of agents provide sales and technical support to customers in more than 30 countries.
