Dematic Introduces Microfulfillment, Returns Processing and Digital Solutions at Promat 2019

Chicago, IL, April 8, 2019 – Dematic announces the introduction of multiple new intralogistics solutions for omni-channel retailers, wholesalers, grocers and B2B distributors. These new solutions maximize the operational effectiveness of the warehouse, distribution center and retail store.

Dematic MicroFulfillment

Dematic MicroFulfillment is a rapid response e-commerce order assembly system designed to support home delivery, as well as click & collect. The Dematic MicroFulfillment system is implemented close to the customer, usually inside a retail store or in an urban distribution center. It optimizes and localizes the e-fulfillment process by minimizing the time, space, cost and amount of workers required to fill e-com orders while accommodating the projected growth of e-commerce.

Hasan Dandashly, Dematic President and CEO, stated, “The solution is a powerful process improvement for businesses that are looking to optimize their omni-channel distribution strategy by more effectively using existing retail stores or urban service centers for e-com order assembly.” Dandashly continued, “Customers can pick up their orders at the closest retail store or service center, as well as receive them using a delivery service to their homes.”

The system is configurable so that it can accommodate the Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) capacity and order volume required. The retailers and wholesalers with a compelling business case for Dematic MicroFulfillment include: grocery, auto parts, consumer electronics, sporting goods, apparel, industrial supplies and department stores that are re-purposing retail store space.

The solution is high density, fits into a compact footprint and has options for temperature-controlled storage and food safety. Dematic MicroFulfillment is scalable, so it can be expanded or re-configured for future change. The order management and execution software synchronizes the labor, inventory and robotic shuttles to assemble orders with accuracy and speed. The entire process is optimized from inbound receiving and put-away, to order picking and consolidation.

Dematic Merchandise Returns Processing System

Merchandise Returns System is a reverse logistics processing solution for omni-channel retailers. It is a material handling sub-system for the distribution center that accelerates and streamlines all the processing steps required to provide customer credit, enter exchanged order and make returned items available for sale.

Merchandise Returns System minimizes the processing cycle time from receiving to “sale ready.”

The results include increased sales since items go back online faster, typically within 24 hours. The customer experience is enhanced when credit for returned items is accomplished immediately upon receipt/check-in while an exchanged order is entered.

“Our Merchandise Returns System maximizes operational flexibility by effectively accommodating the daily and seasonal fluctuations in returns activity,” says Mike Khodl, Dematic Vice President of Solution Management. “The modular system design allows users to re-configure the layout and change software parameters to execute a new operating plan or to revise workflow strategies. Furthermore, the modular, pre-engineered automation can scale-up to increase processing capacity.”

Dematic iQ Virtual and Dematic iQ Workflow

Dematic iQ Virtual is an emulation and simulation platform that allows users to thoroughly explore a proposed system configuration in a virtual environment and gain a true perspective on precisely how the system will perform in actual operation. It provides an isolated, digital twin of the production environment where extensive testing of the system occurs. The virtual emulation model uses graphic-rendering technology to accurately portray labor productivity, inventory flow and the efficiency of material handling automation.

According to Scott Wahl, Dematic Vice President, Software Center of Excellence, “Dematic iQ Virtual can validate the intralogistics system, execution software, and material handling automation to meet and exceed the performance expectations of the user. Furthermore, the emulation software allows users to be immersed into the automated warehouse environment with a three dimensional perspective view or with a walk-thru of the virtual warehouse using a virtual reality headset.”

Wahl continued, “In addition, we are also showcasing Dematic iQ Workflow, an application that works with your warehouse software systems and diverse workforce to execute your manual business processes through a wide variety of voice and vision-based mobile devices. It’s an affordable solution and a solid foundation for optimization that boosts labor efficiency and accuracy — and minimizes costs — across all warehouse functions.

Mobile Automation

The Linde Very Narrow Aisle Hybrid AGV, powered by Dematic, will be launched in KION NA Booth S2603. Dematic Automation Kits are paired with the Linde vehicle, resulting in a dual-use or hybrid machine that can operate manually or as a fully functioning AGV. The Dematic automation kit enables the vehicle to drive, navigate and handle goods — anything a manual VNA machine can do, but without anyone in the driver’s seat. This includes picking, putting, transporting and lifting pallet loads.

Experience these solutions and more at ProMat 2019 at Dematic booth #S2903 and #S3203 and KION NA booth #S203, April 8–11 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
