Tyco Fire & Building Products' Deluge Valve Breaks New Design Ground

Lansdale, Penn.-July 2003-Tyco Fire & Building Products recently introduced its newest deluge valve, the Model DV-5, to the fire protection market. The DV-5 represents a dramatic new approach in both deluge valve function and design. The Model DV-5 is a true innovation in valve design. Abandoning traditional deluge valve designs that incorporate numerous internal chambers, springs, and plugs, the DV-5 features a single moving piece - a reinforced, natural rubber diaphragm. This one-piece design allows for a trouble-free way to externally reset the valve. The rubber diaphragm also eliminates rust accumulation - a major cause of valve operation failure. The result is a fully listed and approved valve for fire protection comprised only of the valve body, cover plate, and diaphragm. An "automatic water control" valve, the DV-5 can be used in deluge, preaction, and special-type (i.e., foam-water) fire protection systems, and is designed for both vertical and horizontal applications. The DV-5 features an internal and external Rilsan corrosion-resistance coating, making it an ideal valve for use with seawater and brackish water supplies, and more durable in corrosive atmospheres, such as industrial processing plants, and outdoor applications. Rounding out the DV-5's new design features is a lightweight ductile iron body that, when coupled with a lack of weighty internal metallic parts, makes the DV-5 the lightest deluge valve on the market. The DV-5 is currently available in four and six inch valve sizes, with a complete line of sizes ranging from 1 ½ to eight inches available in late July. The DV-5 is UL and C-UL Listed and FM Approved. Information regarding the Model DV-5 is available by contacting Tyco Fire & Building Products at (800) 523-6512, or online at www.tyco-fire.com.
