Delphi Audio Systems Make long Hauls More Enjoyable
Troy, Mich. - Delphi Corporation provides audio systems that are "road-tough" with multi-functionality to meet the needs of commercial truck drivers, manufacturers and fleet owners.
Trends show that fleet owners are enhancing the cabin of the truck by adding comfort and convenience features to attract the best drivers. Delphi audio systems are among the most popular upgrades for tractor cabins because of the systems' robust quality and multi-feature capability.
"Our aim is to offer the industry's best driver environment," says Christer Pehrsson, business area manager for long-haul operations at Volvo Trucks. "This naturally includes a high-class audio system. Our new Delphi audio system offers many features and has enabled Volvo to be the first truck maker to develop a complete system that integrates Bluetooth, MP3, USB and iPod."
"Providing entertainment and communications technologies is what we do best-everything from AM/FM to iPod interconnectivity," said Ken Erickson, lead executive for the Entertainment & Communications product business unit at Delphi. "Our lengthy experience in communications technologies started 72 years ago when we integrated the first radio into the instrument panel of a customer's vehicle."
In addition to high-quality sound, Delphi audio systems equipped with Bluetooth technology allow the driver to use a personal Bluetooth-enabled mobile telephone in the vehicle hands-free. This helps to keep drivers' hands on the steering wheel and eyes more focused on the road ahead. Incoming calls appear on the radio display and voice is heard through the radio speakers.
Delphi audio systems include CD players that accept regular CDs and discs with files saved in MP3 and WMA format. They also include a USB port that allows drivers to play memory sticks or MP3 players. The system features command and control of an iPod from the steering wheel. It also recharges the plug-in player and has a location to keep the MP3 player hidden to help prevent theft.
A leader in satellite radio hardware, Delphi has provided more than 18.5-million satellite radios to customers. Satellite radio is the radio medium that offers customers up to 170 channels of programming in addition to the traditional AM/FM radio offerings in OEM applications. Programming is beamed from satellites and includes a very wide variety of music, talk, sports, news, traffic, weather and entertainment coast-to-coast in the U.S. and Canada without fading. Several companies are currently in the process of offering satellite service for Europe.
"Over the years, radios have evolved into multifunctional audio communication systems," Erickson said. "Using core building blocks, we can custom fit the features and functions that are important to a particular customer and offer the system at a very competitive price."
A manufacturer of more than 283 million mobile radios, Delphi has introduced an array of new wireless technologies. In the last 25 years alone, Delphi has been at the forefront in the introduction of multi-speaker, multi-amp premium audio, CD playbacks, DVD rear seat video, MP3 playbacks, advanced TV reception systems and satellite radio into the market. Delphi supplies both OEM and retail hardware for both domestic satellite radio providers.
The trucking industry is very important to the U.S. economic system in that approximately 92 percent of all products are transported on a truck at least once. The industry employs more than three million drivers that travel more than 400 billion miles annually.
