New Avery Dennison Flexis(TM) Air One-Way Coffee Valves Apply to Packages at High Speeds

Degassing Valves Help Protect Product Freshness, Resist Leakage And Adhere Securely To Packages

DÃœSSELDORF - A new pressure-sensitive degassing valve that can be applied at high speeds to flexible or rigid containers of ground or whole bean coffee was introduced today by Avery Dennison Designed and Engineered Solutions at Interpack 2011, Stand B69, Hall 11.

The Avery Dennison Flexis(TM) Air One-way coffee valve will generate interest among packaging and operations engineers looking for ways to increase efficiencies in the coffee roasting and packaging process while improving the freshness of their coffee products. The valve thoroughly degasses packaged coffee, offers superior leak resistance, bonds securely and can be pre-applied to packaging materials.

High Speed Application

Flexis Air One-way coffee valves can be applied using automatic label application systems at speeds nearly twice that of injection molded heat seal-applied degassing valves. In addition, the highly flexible valves have more reliable adhesion and greater leak resistance than stiffer competitive valves.

"Traditional coffee valves are either stiff and slow to apply or have a tendency to leak," explains Bill Hartman, business development director, Avery Dennison Designed and Engineered Solutions. "The Avery Dennison Flexis Air One-way coffee valve uses advanced materials and a unique multi-layer structure, which makes it more flexible and, therefore, more reliable than stiffer conventional coffee valves. In addition, the low profile of the Avery Dennison Flexis Air One-way coffee valve allows it to be pre-applied to packaging materials, before filling."

Flexis Air One-way Coffee Valve Versus Open Bin Degassing

The new Flexis Air One-way coffee valve delivers multiple advantages compared with an alternative degassing process called open bin degassing.

"Open bin degassing may take a week or longer to complete and exposes the coffee to oxygen, which robs it of its freshness," explains Hartman. "With an advanced degassing valve technology, coffee quality is better because it hasn't been sitting exposed to oxygen in degassing bins. By taking advantage of the Flexis Air One-way coffee valve, coffee processors can improve throughput and help reduce expenses associated with inventory and bin outlays, while helping to increase product freshness."

Avery Dennison Flexis Air One-way coffee valves can be printed with logos and promotional messages, such as "Packaged with Flexis(TM) Air One-way coffee valve for added freshness."
