Deep Hole Drilling System operates at rates to 7.8 ipm.

Press Release Summary:

Counter-rotating BTA drilling system incorporates self-centering part steady that keeps longer parts from bowing during drilling process. Capable of drilling 1.600 in. dia hole in heat-treated 15-5 stainless steel (36 Rockwell hardness) at 7.8 ipm, machine uses cooling system that delivers 80 gallons of coolant per minute at 1,000 psi. Counter-rotation allows for accuracy of .0005 in. per inch of drilling.

New Deep Hole Drilling Systems Is 5 Times Faster Than Gundrilling

Kent, OH: TechniDrill Systems, a world leader in gundrill, BTA and ejector deep hole drilling systems, has recently introduced a line of machines that are up to five times faster than gundrills and many times faster than other methods.

The new TechniDrill counter-rotating BTA drilling system has drilled a 1.600" diameter hole in heat-treated 15-5 stainless steel (36 Rockwell hardness) at 7.8 inches per minute. According to Jim Kent, president of TechniDrill, "It would take a gundrill at least 5 times as long to drill this hole, and twist or spade drills would take many times longer."

The new system is also highly accurate due to the counter-rotation of the tool and the workpiece. This counter-rotation allows for an accuracy of .0005" per inch of drilling.

This BTA system is also equipped with a self-centering part steady, which keeps longer parts from bowing during the drilling process.

The cooling system delivers 80 gallons of coolant per minute at 1000 psi.
