Decorative Wall "Hiding" California Reservoir Remains Graffiti-Free with New High Tech Coatings

Durable Graffiti Proofer Coating Sheds Graffiti or Enables Easy Clean Off

BRENTWOOD, CA (August 31, 2007) -As home costs in the San Francisco area have continued to rise, the City of Brentwood, some 45 miles to the east, has seen its population grow. But with growth have also come the challenges of providing residents with new and needed structures that do not intrude upon the natural beauty of the area. In this case, it was hiding the reservoir and keeping it graffiti-free.

To hide the reservoir, located above a residential neighborhood and in plain view of a major highway, the City Department of Public Works chose to have a firm build an architectural rock wall facade to hide the large cement structure. But keeping taggers from displaying their "art" posed a greater challenge. Whereas, most towns simply are perplexed by the high ongoing costs of eliminating graffiti and simply agree to clean it up after the fact, the independent-thinking Public Works Department of Brentwood sought to nip it in the bud.

"We looked at alternatives to the graffiti situation," recalls Paul Eldredge, Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Brentwood, "and saw it as a pay now or pay later situation. Articles we saw in leading journals on the success of SEI Chemical of Northridge, CA and their high tech line of anti-graffiti formulations presented us with a possible solution. (Note: another success story has been the application of coatings to the Alameda Corridor transportation motorway and railway between Long Beach and Los Angeles.)

"But even when we did decide to go with the graffiti proofer coatings from SEI Chemical, we anticipated having to apply the initial coating and then re-applying coatings on a periodic basis," continues the Brentwood spokesperson. Added to this was the inevitable cleaning when taggers did have a modicum of success. We still saw this as an expensive, rigorous and a never-ending task.

"However, because of the durability of the coating - more than two years now," says Eldredge, "and our ability to rid the wall of any near-successes by taggers, the project has been a roaring success. Although the coatings make it difficult or impossible for graffiti materials to stick, but when it does, we can take it off. The word is obviously out and graffiti is at a minimum at the present time."

SEI Chemical, headquartered in Northridge, CA, in the shadow of one of America's graffiti-havens - Los Angeles - was one of the world's first firms to come up with a full series of high performance graffiti deterrent products that actually work! Company technicians partner with towns and cities, public works departments, engineering firms and other sources perplexed by the challenges and high costs of graffiti prevention and removal.

Sold under the name GPA-200 (Graffiti Proofer Anti-Stick) the SEI product is a high performance, highly fluorinated and durable clear gloss coating formulated for applications requiring extremely high-slip characteristics and chemical resistance.

A few short years ago, SEI Chemical took on the graffiti challenge by formulating several distinct types graffiti deterrent coatings. The reason? Special formulations are required for different materials (smooth or porous) to make paint, lacquers, enamels and adhesives to "crawl" together and run off the surface, thus deterring the vandal from continuing. Or, in the event a tagger successfully applies a nominal amount of paint, marker or other product, the graffiti can be easily removed with their remover products.

To Brentwood residents living and working near the new reservoir and passers-by on the Highway 4 Bypass, not only is the reservoir hidden, but the attractive façade remains graffiti-free as well.

SEI Chemical, with offices and facilities in Northridge and La Verne California and sales worldwide, has earned its way to become a global leader in the fields of anti-stick, anti-microbial, anti-corrosion, anti-abrasion industrial coatings. The firm also manufacture's resins, coupling agents, curing agents coating additives, sealants and building restoration products.

Decorative wall put up to hide City of Brentwood, CA reservoir has remained almost totally graffiti-free since it was erected two-plus years ago. However when "taggers" do manage to apply their "art", Public Works Department personnel quickly and easily remove it, thanks to anti-graffiti coatings from SEI Chemical of Northridge and LaVerne, CA.
