Next Generation in Crane Control from Eaton's Cutler-Hammer Business Maximizes Performance

PITTSBURGH, PA. Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation introduces the Cutler-Hammer Respondor DDC drive, a solid state DC to DC drive designed for crane applications. Through the use of high-speed semiconductors, The Respondor DDC drive maximizes crane performance and reliability, while minimizing downtime, ongoing maintenance expenses and energy costs.

Semiconductors in the Respondor DDC's microprocessor drive provide smooth acceleration and deceleration, reducing the inrush of current and prolonging the life of the motor. The Respondor DDC offers smooth stepped or stepless motions, easily programmed to correspond with application needs.

"Unlike traditional DCCP systems, which use resistors to regulate motor current in switched stages, the Respondor DDC's use of semiconductor switches to control the speed and
torque of the motor eliminates costly maintenance expenses associated with resistors and contactors," said Duane Repp, product line manager of Cutler-Hammer.

Designed to withstand harsh mill environments through a compact stainless steel enclosure, the Respondor DDC facilitates retrofits by retaining existing motor, collector system, series or shunt brake, power loss DB resistors and power limit switch connections. The Respondor DDC is typically 33 percent smaller than DCCP systems and is designed as a "drop in" replacement for the DCCP system.
